barrel makes and twist rates for 338 lapau

Guys,

What is the favorite barrel twist rates, lengths, and makers for the 338 lapau.
My friend is getting his Weatherby rebuilt from 30-378 to the 338 Lapau, and wants to know what the experts think.

Any majors...I'd go Rock most likely.

1-9.4 I think is their standard and will twist most the bullets out there.

I use Broughton 5C rifled barrels in a 1/9.3 twist rate for.

Ive use this one and a Rock barrel. Both shot great But the last few Broughton. After new cleaning one round clean one round clean one round no copper. shot five rounds and barrel clean so easy. I though i was some how cleaning it wrong.

I chose the Broughton 1 in 9.3 twist 30" over the Rock and could not be more happy. These are the 2 that Jared and Dave @ APA recommended. Your friend will love the 338 Lapua. When I shoot it next to my other rifles, it is very clear how powerful it is. The only fault it has is finding somewhere in GA far enough to test it.

No expert but still trying to learn more everyday.

I had always used 1-10" Kriegers in the .338LM with excellent results. About 4 years ago, many of us thought the .338 stuff was going to take off and we might see a lot of new bullets come on line. Some of those might be longer/high BC bullets that might need more than the 1-10" twists so I started ordering 1-9" twists from Krieger.

With 250 and 300gr bullets, we have seen very good performance and I have not wished for anything different. Basically, any of the better barrel makers can hook your friend up. Anything around a 9 to 10" twist will be fine as long as the rest of the rifle is set up correctly. In my opinion, there is no magic twist rate down to the 1/10th of an inch.

The 9.3 Rocks and Broughtons are very good barrels also.
