I've slowly gathered parts for my .338 LM build. The only part I really need is the trigger. I have a Krieger on order and was wondering if I ought to snag up a Proof Research. The Krieger is paid and should be here at the end of the month. Has anyone here went with a Proof barrel then switch to another brand or should I just stick with Krieger?

I have read great things about both barrels. I recently purchased a Bartlein, but am waiting for the action before I can use it. Regarding the trigger I would recommend the Huber two-stage trigger. A guy who goes by TiborasaurusRex on YouTube has a good video about them entitled "Extreme Duty - Huber Two Stage Trigger for Remington." He says it's his favorite custom trigger.

Krieger makes great barrels, and John is a nice guy. I'm sure that Proof Research makes good ones, too. Instead of getting another barrel, maybe the money could go towards the trigger or another build.

Thanks Bronco. I watched the video, whole 30+ minutes. It was interesting. My three choices were Huber, Triggertech, and Jewell. I think I will pick a trigger later this month. Krieger sent an email with tracking. My barrel should be here next week. I'm still thinking about grabbing a Proof CF before Manners starts doing my stock. It seems the current Proof are getting good results. I read one reply on another forum where the barrel was a CF Proof pre-fit that had a short chamber and the owner decided to get a refund and try something else. I have the reamer, gauges, and tooling to do either barrel. I'm sure the Krieger will shoot, just not sure if the weight savings offset the cost. I don't think I'll lug this gun over miles of terrain.

Trigger: Bix n Andy. Trigger tech is a good option, so is the Tubb. Huber makes a great trigger but my honest opinion bix n andy makes the best one and the Tubb is a close second.

Barrel: it’s a 338LM, do you really want to cut weight that bad? The Krieger will probably be a more accurate barrel (not that proof makes an inaccurate barrel)

Food for thought: do you have a can? If not skip the proof and get a can coming.

My Krieger arrived today. The barrel looks nice and a cleaning patch passed through smoothly. I 'll probably put the Proof CF barrel idea on the back burner since other things have come up. I think either way will be a good choice. I live in a Commie state and intend to move in a few years when I retire so no can at this time.
