Hello all,

I just picked up a custom kreiger take-off barrel chambered in .260. I am thinking hard about re-chambering to 6.5 creedmoor, but am wondering how bad it would look to take enough off the barrel shoulder to do this. The barrel shoulder will need to be pushed forward around .200" to clear a thicker recoil lug and the room to clean up the chamber completely. Has anyone else set back a varmint contour barrel this far? Does it look real bad?

Thanks

Dave

awe man....i would first shoot the barrel and see how it prints....then if you are set on the re-chamber....who the hell cares what it looks like if you got enough shank

Maybe I'm not understanding what your trying to say but adding a thicker recoil lug won't cause you to have to set the barrel back any more than a thinner one will. All you will have to do is set the barrel back enough to rechamber. You will be adding shank length to barrel with the thicker lug.

Yes, using a thicker recoil lug doesn't require me to trim any more of the bolt recess or threading, but it will require the barrel shoulder to be pushed forward, which is what will cosmetically make it look odd. That is my main concern with this thread, how bad does it look when you push the barrel shoulder of a Varmint contour barrel forward in the range of .200" or so.

Thanks

Dave

Dave,
I set barrels back between .118 and .125 regularly and it has no effect on how the barrel looks. Since you're using a Krieger, you don't have to worry about timing a roll mark, so take off what is necessary to allow a re-chamber and you'll be fine....
