Gunsmithing Barrel shank ? for the smiths

If you have a rock remington varmint contour barrel with a 3" shank, how much are you going to use to thread the barrel, and what will be left over of that 3 inch shank after you thread it?

Also, does the length of the threaded portion change from say a standard remington action to a stiller or surgeon?

Std Rem action you will use .900 if you don't face any off the end, i would go with 1.00 so you have 2.00 left.

Also depends on the thickness of the recoil lug.

Approximately 0.700" + the lug thickness is required for the barrel tenon on a Remington 700 or a Stiller TAC30.

Also depends on the stock it is going back into, but I am guessing that is why you are asking. Most stocks inletted for the RV contour aren't setup to leave much shank.

It's a bighorn sporter with holland lug going into an HTG.
