I'm going to be having a new barrel put on my rifle. I've asked the smith to go ahead and thread the barrel and put a protector on so that if the sheriff in my county ever starts signing the forms again I can get a suppressor for it. I wanted to ask tho, is there a standard thread that most suppressors use. I want to get it right the first time. Thanks

1/2-28 for a lot from 223 to 9mm, and most 30 cal and similar use 5/8-24.

I also dont want to try to explain the process. Find the google snipers hide search and lookup setting up trust and you will find endless amounts of info.
I hear it used to be quicker, but it doesnt seem that way anymore. It SHOULD be much quicker since they have no background check to do. Not like theyre doing anymore of an indepth background check than NICS anyway though.

I plan on threading everything 5/8-24 to make 1 suppressor more versatile on different rifles. The .30 cal cans seem to work very well on .22 centerfires. The only issue is they are heavier than a dedicated .223 can.

You might consider still keeping the .22 stuff in 1/2-28 incase you get a dedicated 22 suppressor, then just use an adapter. I thought about threading my Savage Mark II .22 in 5/8 for my 308 can at the time since theres plenty of meat, but now I have a 22 can on the way and wouldnt have been happy having to rethread it.
