Can anyone recommend a barrel vise? It will be used to switch barrels on a custom shot action. Barrels have M40/M24 contour.

Looking at the Davidson Barrel vise, but don't know if it's strong enough to remove a barrel that has been torqued to 65lbs. I was thinking of using a bike's inner tube to help grip and prevent marring the barrel.

Re: Barrel vise suggestions

I have a vise that is modeled after the Brownells that I made up and works great. I just looked at Brownells site and what they want for a vise is mind boggeling. While an innertube might work, I use lead flashing that most hardware stores carry very inexpensively. I think most will sell you 6 inches or so to cut up and use as a liner for a vise. Better still I can send you plenty if you want the vise I made. I have a few extras and your welcome to one if you want it. As I say it works great for me. If you want one just P.M. me and I"ll get it in the mail as soon as possible. I will send you enough flashing to make up liners for any barrels that you may want to use it on. Held on a solid bench with c clamps or bolts they are strong enough for just about any barrel you might want to take off.

Re: Barrel vise suggestions

I've been using the davidson, and it was good enough to take a factory Remington off that was rusted on. I was actually starting to worry about my table before the dang thing came loose.

BBeyer is good to go!!! He gave me a barrel vise and some lead flashings for free and would not accept any type of payment (including shipping). Thank you a million times!!!
