I was reading up on this the other day in the magazine that Barrett puts out. Seems like a nice little set up. From what I gather it comes in either 5.56 or 6.8SPC.

I'd like some unbiased opinions if anyone on here owns one or has had the opportunity to shot one?

I ran and search and didn't really come up with much.

Re: Barrett REC 7

The video above is good, as well Barrett brought the REC7s out to the Bash in the beginning of December, we shot them in Full Auto as well from the Helicopter. Afterwards, they came by with a couple of Full Auto PSD models in both 5.56 and 6.8. These were 8" suppressed models, very fun to shoot.

Good stuff coming out of Barrett.

Re: Barrett REC 7

Thanks LL and Redmanss, I actually came across that thread and found it informative but it's main focus was the USO scope and not the Barrett.

I was looking for something a bit more in depth on the rifle itself.

Re: Barrett REC 7

What exactly are you looking for... piston drive, adjustable gas block, unique rod set up, that is very strong. It's made for Barrett by a well respected company is my understanding, a well known name brand.

Accuracy was first class with 77gr match.

We ran 92 shooters through with two separate events and it went off without a hitch both semi & full auto. As well I can say I dumped a LOT of full auto through the 8" versions, I mean a lot of ammo. Flawless operation.

Re: Barrett REC 7

So a couple of us were able to get some trigger time on the REC7s. Me and CKirkC were shooting the 6.8 on full auto and were REALLY impressed! I got quite a few jams when I was firing it, but CKirkC didn't get one, so maybe I just suck...that and the chamber was SUPER dirty from several days of shooting. What we DID notice on the videos though, was that the muzzle wasn't jumping up at all. I mean, we're goin full rock and roll with 6.8s and the muzzle is just sitting there...no climb! I don't know how Barret did it, but I was REALLY impressed!
Anyhow, if I was in the market for ANOTHER AR, I'd be all over this one.

Re: Barrett REC 7

We found the reason for the jams in the 6.8, the magazine lips were bent and were causing it, they brought out new mags and it worked, they could see the marks were the bolts hit the magazine.

I actually have full auto video taken from the day after everyone left with full dumps and no jams. But it was a magazine issue in the 6.8, the 5.56 with PMAGs were flawless, which the 6.8 did to after we changed out the magazines. One side of the magazines had this weird bent to it on the ones you all were using ?

Here I uploaded the video from the afternoon blowing off some rounds... no commentary just fun.

Re: Barrett REC 7

Good thing p e t a doesn't come around this arena........LL would be forced to pay damages to the cat....

Is the REC 7 gonna survive? (6.8SPC) Favor seems to have died off over the last year or so.

Re: Barrett REC 7

I got the impression that the Rec7 was a response to Barrett being in the know when the 6.8SPC and HK 416 were in development and they saw it as an opportunity to make a good business move. In all these years this the only thing I've read about people actually shooting them....interesting.

Re: Barrett REC 7

Hmm, I just did a quick google search and pretty much 90% of the AR building community offers an upper in 6.8.

Don't know what to tell you, but it looks like almost everyone makes one. I have no use for one, why we use the 5.56 version, but sure as hell looks like a lot of them out there.

According to them the demo they went on favored the version in 6.8.

Re: Barrett REC 7

Glad to hear you guys figured out the jamming problem. It makes sense too because I was using one mag and Charlie was using the other with not issues. We were having too much fun to really worry about it. Plus I got to practice my failure drills!

Re: Barrett REC 7

That is the quick deployment tactical kitten. Very effective in stressfull situations. The dog is to bulky for most situations and are heavy to lug around. These kittens fill the niche perfectly. It is a good bang for the buck. Better than the tactical scarf it actually puts of heat in cold enviroments instead of just holding it in like the scarf. Thats amazing technology right there. If you don't like yours just throw it off a bridge
