I am as newbie as they come to long range shooting, but I thought I'd jump in with you guys and gal. Just picked up the Rem 700 SPS Tac. I wanted to buy a set of bases and rings to go with a 1" tube Nikon 2x7 scope I already have. I'm doing this so I can shoot at least to 100 yards while I save for a NightForce scope down the road. Now I asked at the gun shop what I needed and they had no idea but thought I needed a certain height rings to clear the bolt when it is opened. Now I don't want to spend too much on a temp. set up but any help would be great. Tom

your gun shop didnt know????? Wouldnt go there again, but you need a picatinny base or one piece mount. EGW, Badger, NF, Seekins, rings are any of the above and more. Burris XTRs are good im not sure if they make them in 1" though

i went with the TPS steel rings on my sps with the one piece base. I really like them. Seems to be some quality rings. I mounted a 8.5x25x50 Mark 4 and used the low rings (i think might of been the ultra low not sure). But they have great customer service, give them a call, tell them what you got, they will know exactly what you need. Tony

I would get Badger Ordnance Medium with reducers and Badger 20 moa base. This way when you get a nightforce you can use the same rings, just my opinion.
