I have a new from the factory Rem 700 action. 3 of the 4 holes for mounting the base are threaded perfect and the screw goes right in. The fourth hole has not cut correctly and the bolt to hold the mount on in that hole will not will not thread at all. I can't even get it started. Is there a way to correct this problem? Can it be rethreaded to accomodate the base mounting bolt?

Re: Base mounting hole

You could send it back and wait a really long time to get it fixed at the factory or you could open up the hole in the base that will allow the screw to thread in easy.

Re: Base mounting hole

Try chasing the threads with a 6-48 tapered tap. If it's the very first hole over the barrel use a bottom tap and be very careful not to break the tap or you will have another problem.

Chances are the very first thread of the hole is what's causing the issue.
