What: Basic Law Enforcement Sniper School
Target Audience: Sworn law enforcement officers with current or imminent
assignment to SWAT sniper duties. (Class limited to 12 students)
Sponsoring Agency: Union County Sheriff's Office
When: June 13-17, 2011
Hours: Vary (Call for syllabus)
Cost: $200, make check or money order payable to: C.E.R.T. Student
or student's agency is responsible for meals and lodging.
Where: Union County (La Grande) and remote locations
Instructors: Lead instructor is Captain Craig Ward, UCSO, a graduate of the
U.S. Army MP Sniper School and the FBI Marksman/Observer course.
Ward currently serves as a sniper with the La Grande PD SAT and is the
sniper team leader for the UCSO CERT. He has taught sniping to operators of
the U.S. Army Special Forces (12th Group) and Portland Police SERT, among
others.

Overview: This is a five day school to train SWAT officers assigned to the
marksman role in the basics of police sniping. Equipment selection and
set-up; role of the sniper; observing, reporting, sketching; marksmanship;
us of the telescopic sight; hide selection, camouflage; interior, exterior
and terminal ballistics; atmospherics; moving and long range targets, night
firing; maintenance, record keeping, log book.
Pre-requisites: Sworn law enforcement officer with current or imminent
assignment to SWAT sniper duties.
Attire: SWAT type outdoor clothing
Supplies/Equipment Needed: telescopically sighted center fire rifle capable
of at least one MOA accuracy (one inch at one hundred yards), appropriate
support equipment (call for list), 250 rounds rifle ammunition minimum,
service handgun, appropriate holster, 50 rounds ammunition.
