+1! just read the instructions when you get it about unwinding the tension on the spring each time your are done using it. If you store it with tension on the internal spring, it will mess up the spring and trow the calibration to shit.

Re: basic torque wrench?

Just got the torque wrench combo from Scott at Liberty Optics. Included a 15 and a 55 in/lb wrench to handle Seekins ring and base torquing, as well as the appropriate torx bits. A little more than your listed budget ($129), but Scott was great to deal with and the wrenches were perfect.

This is what they list now, also look at S&K,Craftsman,or Snap On,MAC Tools

30-200 bit on the heavy side

Scope rings (Seekins) 15-20
Scope Cross 50

You might want to get a finer adjustment.

Re: basic torque wrench?

Check out ebay. I am a double master certified mechanic and I bought 3 torque wrenches off ebay for pennies. Two Snap-on and one CDI. Last one cost me $24 and then $53 to get calibrated once I got it. Just watch for the auctions that end during the week they will usually be a better deal since less people watch them.

Re: basic torque wrench?

Most ring caps are 15 in-lbs, and the base nuts (on the rings) are usually 65 in-lbs. However, there are plenty of exceptions.

My Near base is affixed to the receiver at around 18-28 in-lbs.

Guess you missed the part of having a Wheeler also?
As well as the Gearwrench being bought for large electrical gear?

The Wheeler will do 99.9% of anything scope related.
More in/lb torque wrenches then you need

Re: basic torque wrench?

At the risk of being laughed out of this forum on my first post, I recently picked up an adjustable torque wrench (20-200 in/lbs) from Harbour Freight on sale for $19.99. I know, the quality of their tools sucks, but if you are on a budget like I am this beats being without a torque wrench at all.

I saw that same wrench and decided against it. Plus I wanted a wrench that would go down to at least 10 in/lbs. I put it back and bought the Fat Wrench instead.

Re: basic torque wrench?

If you want high quality for little money, you can't beat Ebay. Like new snap-on inch lbs torque wrenches sell very inexpensivly. Take a look you might be glad you did.
