I am researching for a .338LM build and would like to use a BAT action. My neighbor has a Bat action for a 6mmbr that is incredible. Which Action size from Bat and why? Please help educate me. I want to be able to load my own ammo with the most options available for the .338lm.

Also, any reason to pick a single shot over a repeater. I've been a black rifle gas gun shooter and getting into the bolt guns now. Thanks.

Re: BAT Action

If you want a BAT, I'd recommend the MB155R Round Action. 1.55" diameter, 8.5" long, and will allow ejection of a loaded round. They also offer the same action with multi-flat design and octagon design to shave a few ounces. I have one for sale, but the bolts that come with it are for Chey Tac Cartridges (too big) and standard Magnum (.532, too small); even have a Macmillan A5 stock inletted for it. The BAT has an integral rear and mid-body recoil lug, and I have titanium Remington Style lugs EDM'd and pinned to the front of the action to give a 3 point bedding job. McMillan can inlet their stocks for this action. It's definitely hard to go wrong with a BAT, especially now that they are producing their own Picatinny Rails and Scope Rings.

Can't speak as to the repeater, all my BATs are single shot. If you want a repeater, have you considered getting a SAKO TRG?Any way you go, you're going to have a great rifle. Good Luck in your quest.

Regards,

Wes

Re: BAT Action

I had Kirby Allen of Allen Precision Shooting build me a 338 Allen Express (338 Lapua Improved) on a BAT HRPIC receiver that comes with the integral recoil lug and 20 MOA rail. Having owned a few custom receivers (Nesika, Surgeon, Stiller, Lawton) I will say that this receiver is as good or better than any of them. You can't go wrong with a BAT. My 338 AX is a repeater, and if you are going to go that route, be sure to get the Seekins DM assemly so you can seat the bullets out properly.
