I am wanting to have GAP build a 6x45 and am wanting to keep the barrel length somewhat handy- like around 20". Anyone have any experience with this ctg with this length tube?

A ton of ar15s are built with 16" and 20" spouts. Can't see why there would be any issue running abolt gun with similar length. FWIW, I just had a 6x45 screwed together, and used a 21" tube. Still waiting on the stock so I don't have any other data, but there certainly isn't a lot of powder needing to burn. Handy is always a good way to go.

In an AR15 where you are limited by COAL it makes a lot of sense. But I don't know if this is something I would pursue in a bolt gun. Even a 6.8spc based 6mm in a bolt gun seems like it would be closer to the way to fly. If one didn't go .223ai from the get go.

I shoot a 6TCU in a 20". The Sierra 60HP runs around 3140fps with H335. Just loaded some 70TNT in new brass to fireform but haven't shot them over a chrono.

I built one since I had an extra 223 BF action, already had a lightweight 223ai, and wanted something legal to hunt with in caliber-restricted states (like WY). No doubt the 223ai is a great performer, but the 6x45 is no slouch especially for smaller deer and antelope.

I've often thought of putting one of these together (6x45 or 6TCU) on a bolt rifle. Is this a cartridge where one must ream the necks to keep donuts from forming???

I've got one with a 22 inch barrel. It's an awesome round for deer inside 200 yds. I get about 2820 with 80 grain Tipped TSX and Gamekings. The only downside is, if you shoot a deer past 200, the velocity loss significantly affects terminal performance. I've seen three deer in the last week go way beyond what they should have fom longer shots with that placement. All were double lunged and hit through the arteries above the heart. One spike made it on a loop that covered probably 1200 yds that brought him back to 460, where a 105 Amax from a 243 AI finished him off.
In summary, it's a great round from a handy package, with limited capabilities.

My AR is a 6x45 with a 18" barrel and I wish I would have gone 20" for a little extra velocity.

I have a 6.5 TCU(6.5x45) 20" Contender and with 120gr partition at 2600fps it will take any deer or hog in these parts.
