I need some some flip-up caps for a NF 2.5-10x32 scope. The ones that came with it are pretty crappy.
Butler Creek are the only ones I have any experience with, and they've always worked fine on my hunting scopes.
I did a search and came up with zilch.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: BC or other flip caps?

Maybe somebody can come up with the sizes on the BC caps. The nearest BC dealer that stocks a bunch is 60 miles away.

Re: BC or other flip caps?

take a caliper and measure the OD of both obj & eye piece. Then go to BC web site (or Midway USA) and read the spec. They give a measurement range for each cap. Order online and never leave your house!

Re: BC or other flip caps?

Go with BC and never look back. Every other brand of flip caps that I have tried just sucked, not even in the same league. I have never had one minutes problems with the BC and it is all I have on my scopes.

Yep, me too!
I've got a bunch of them on several Zeiss and Leupolds.
I was trying to save some trial and error on the sizes for the NF.
A #17 fits the eyepiece on my 3.5-15.

Re: BC or other flip caps?

I agree that the caps Nightforce supplies with the compact NXS scopes are terrible. Butler Creek caps would be a definite step up. That said, I will mention that I have had a lot worse luck in recent years with Butler Creek caps. I have been using them for probably 10 years or more. My old BC caps are still going strong, while just about every set I've bought within the last two or three years has had issues of some sort. The newer ones seem to break easily and frequently too.

Leupold Alumina Caps are pretty bullet proof flip up caps and unlike Butler Creek they are metal not plastic. I have used BC caps and they have served me well for many years. No complaints there either.

And I thought I was the only one. On recent buys (identified by a yellow flipper instead of red) I have had several break with what I think is pretty minimal wear. I have had the little pin work its way out as well as the spring popping out of the little hole and disappearing.

Grab a pair of calipers (a ruler with 64ths' will also work well enough) and measure the O.D. of the Objective and Ocular bells on your scope, then compare your measurements to the <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">Butler Creek Flip Open Scope Covers chart</span></span>. Write down the two closest sizes to the O.D. of the Objective and Ocular bells (the next smaller size and the next larger size).

If a shop close to you stocks them, go test-fit them in person. If no one has said sizes in stock, order the closest sizes to what is listed on the chart from the dealer of your choosing. I recommend that you order the next smaller and next larger Objective and Ocular sizes just to be sure. You can always sell or trade the size(s) you don't need.

Keep in mind that the caps are rubber, so they stretch some. If a cap is really tight, heat it in hot water before pushing it on. However, there is <span style="font-style: italic">tight</span>, and there is <span style="font-style: italic">too tight</span>. <span style="font-weight: bold">Overly tight</span> caps don't work too well because the cover is under stress, and sometimes the cap will inadvertently pop open, exposing the lens.

For future reference, check-out and bookmark <span style="font-style: italic">sobrbiker883</span>'s excellent <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">"BC Flip up sizes"</span></span> post.

The BC Flip Open sizes for your Nightforce 2.5-10X32 aren't listed in <span style="font-style: italic">sobrbiker883</span>'s thread yet, so maybe after you've verified the correct sizes for the 2.5-10X 32mm on your scope you can PM <span style="font-style: italic">sobrbiker883</span> the sizes so he can update/edit his thread. I've done that a few times - it helps everyone and is a good way to contribute to the site in a small but positive manner.

Yep. The flip-up cap on the Objective of my first PMII 5-25X fit so tightly that the cover had to be pried-off slowly using equal pressure on the little "ears" at the same time, or else the "hinge block" would twist and break. It was the BC that was supplied with the scope (#46), which has a 61.7mm I.D. The Objective bell of the PMII 5-25X has an O.D. of 62mm.

I decided to go up one size to a #47, which has a 62.5mm I.D. and fits perfectly - very snug but not tight. #47s' were hard-to-find in stock, so I bought three spares when I found them at a precision airgun shop.

My second PMII 5-25X came with a #47, so I believe that S & B may have realized the problem with the #46 Objective cap and began supplying the PMII 5-25X with the #47 at some point.
