Rifle Scopes BDC Tactical scope for M1A

Re: BDC Tactical scope for M1A

A BDC is a waste of money.

Your dope, whether in MOA or mils, will not change substantially with conditions inside 700 yards on man-sized targets.

Outside 700, you're going to need to take environmental parameters into effect, and the BDC wouldn't be accurate anyway.

If you don't have a good memory, write the dope small and tape it inside your rear scope cap, on the stock, or somewhere else handy.

Lindy just curious from a military view point.Since it does not change much to 700 yards and that is probably getting towards the end of a m21s usual engagement range.Wouldn't the bdc be easiers, just spin to the yardage and shoot.Past that range and if condititons require you can always go plus or minus clicks as needed?

You want easy?

With a scope with 5 mils of marks below the main crosshairs, you can shoot to beyond 600 yards just using holdovers with a 100 yard zero on the scope.

Dials? We don' need no steenking dials...

A proficient combat marksman has memorized his dope to at least 600 yards for his primary weapon.

If you get in a fight with one of those, he'll kill you dead while you're reaching for the scope dial.

A BDC is a crutch. I recommend learning to walk.

Re: BDC Tactical scope for M1A

Not every military weapon is shot by a sniper.

And even snipers may have multiple weapons at their disposal. I know of units where the snipers are deploying with .308 bolt guns, .308 gas guns, .300 Win Mag bolt guns, .50 BMG bolt guns, and .50 BMG semi-autos.

There is a place for a BDC - but not on your primary rifle.

That "True Believer" noted in your .sig block has no BDC. Nor does he need one.

"Somewhere a True Believer is training to kill you. He is training with minimal food or water, in austere conditions, training day and night. The only thing clean on him is his weapon and he made his web gear. He doesn't worry about what workout to do - his ruck weighs what it weighs, his runs end when the enemy stops chasing him. This True Believer is not concerned about 'how hard it is;' he knows either he wins or dies. He doesn't go home at 17:00, he is home. He knows only The Cause."
