Anyone here have a bearing surface measurement for the 90gr Federal Fusion? Hodgdon doesn't have the 90 SMK or the 88 ELD powder data but does for the 90 Fusion.

I want to compare Fusion to SMK/ELD loads in terms of bearing surface. 90SMK has about .397 bearing surface and 88 ELD is .447... From my research, it seems that the 90 Fusion may have more than both of those, which means more pressure/lower charge than either of two.

Thanks in advance for input!

NM. I found a partial box of these in my reloading room and tore one apart for measurements.

In case anyone is interested in the data:
90 Fusion: .437" bearing surface +-.002
90 SMK : .397" Bearing surface +-.002
88 ELD: .442" Bearing surface +-.002

So if using Hodgdon reloading data/powders, the 90 Fusion is very close to ELD except the ELD has a MUCH longer boattail so capacity will be further reduced. The 90 SMK should allow slightly higher charge but the boattail is also longer than 90 Fusion so might be a wash.

This all assumes seating to the 2.260" oal that Hodgdon references. If seating further out (2.290-2.300) you should be able to run slightly more powder. YMMV so test to be sure in your rifle.
