im about to get a savage 10fcp in a mcm a5. it doesn't come bedded from the factory.

i am new to this kind of shooting so i know this rifle will outshoot me for a while. should i just go ahead and have it bedded when i first get it or is it ok to shoot it a while and then when i get the money and really need the extra bit of accuracy, have it bedded?

Re: bed now or later?

i have seen factory out-of-the-box rifles hang with the BEST of them.......

i'm of the opinion that you do things for a reason.....so if you think your pig needs lipstick by all means .....

but i would demure till you figure how the rifle prints......that's just me

Re: bed now or later?

Im going to have to go aginst the grain here. Bedding it will only improve accuracy if dont properly. You will not be hurting anything by going ahead and having it bedded and can only help it.
It might shoot 3/8" groups like it is but bedded it might very well shoot 1/4" groups. Get it bedded you wont be sorry.

Re: bed now or later?

I'd prefer to bed before firing. If one is convinced that it is an advantage then why only do half a job?
Even if the group does not improve I think it will improve reliability over a longer time.
but.. it's easy to say if one can just hop into the workshop and bed it quickly, compared to others who have to bring the rifle away for a week or so and pay a few hundred.
