Gunsmithing Bedding a Manners stock

I have come across another manners stock with pillars installed at factory. I plan to putting it on my .308 SPS Varmint barreled action. I also plan to bed it myself, but I was wondering how far past recoil lug should I go? I see some go about 2" or so past. Thanks guys!!

If you are going to put a pad under the barrel a good rule of thumb is bed the chamber. But you don't have to bed the barrel at all. Its just a matter of taste.
