I recently purchased a Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist style # 2 stock for my Remington 700 varmit rifle. It was the ADL so I had to change it over and I purchased the newly released M5 stealth detachable mag system. Stockys quoted <span style="color: #FF0000">" STANDARD 700 BDL STOCKS MUST BE FITTED TO THE "M5/BADGER DM" INLETTING FOR THIS SYSTEM, IT'S THE SAME INLETTING, TAKES THE SAME AICS-TYPE MAGAZINES, JUST AN IMPROVED DESIGN. AS WITH ANY DETACHABLE MAGAZINE SYSTEM, THE PILLAR-HEIGHT IS CRUCIAL FOR MIL-SPEC RELIABILITY, SO WE INCLUDE THE PILLARS AND THE SCREWS TO PUT IT ALL TOGETHER IF YOU ARE MODIFYING YOUR STOCK. (Of course, you can simply measure the height of your existing pillars (1.075" rear / .720" front) and adjust if required. Any adjustments should be made from the bottom of the stock as the M5 mil-spec hardware is a tad thicker than the standard 700 floorplate.)"</span> It took me nearly two days to get the stock dremeled out where the mag system would fit flush ( Like I think it should fit?). I had to grind down the pillars and I ended up grinding on the mag system it's self toward the back half and noticed I probably shouldn't have done that because I thinned it at the back portion of where inletting is for where the set screw goes in. I got it a little uneven on the back side and put some jb weld to make sure I got a good even contact with the pillars. Which brings me to the two questions I would like to ask.
#1.How will I know for sure if it's within "Mil-Spec" and could I have done something to screw up the accuracy? The clip fit in the rifle but it's alittle screwy and doesn't want to stay. I don't know if that's because I have something off OR they sent me a 300 WSM for a 308. win.
#2 There is aprox a 1/4 inch groove around the lip at the end of the mag system facing toward to barrel where I went took to much off of the stock. It is very even and uniform so it doesn't look that bad to me but I'm guessing it should be filled in, Am I correct? If so what would you recommend me using (The stock is the textured black) maybe some kind of expoxy?
So far I love the way it looks but I don't really understand how much contact the mag system needs to be making with the pillars and I am concerned I could have really screwed something up. They did include extra pillars but I don't see how I could have used those UNLESS I drilled out the existing pillars inbedded in the stock. I did use the screws they gave me as they were a tad longer and worked just fine! I am totally new at this and I know this has been a long post. I really appreciate the time you spent reading this and any feedback you would like to offer!
