ok so i just bedded some factory stocks, the first was a houge stock that came on a factory howa 1500, I was trying to bring the rifle around and get it to shoot and failed something horrificly...lol so i tryed another factory stock i had laying around, it is curing as i type. i have also looked at my savage 12fv and thought about bedding it.

what i am wanting to see is pictures of factory plastic stocks that have been bedded. how did you deal with the hollow forend? did you build a dam of some kind? did you do a barrel pad as well?

Re: bedding factory stocks

Well, when I was still wasting my time with the factory synthetic stock on my Savage 110FP, I filled the hollow forearm with some epoxy and a few layers of carbon-fiber cloth. This stiffened it enough where it would finally shoot consistently off the bipod (without this stiffening, even a barrel channel clearance of 1/8" would still result in barrel contact). Metal rods in the forearm would provide the same effect.

I had a Savage 11 in .243 that shot just fine with the factory
"sporter" barrel that was free-floated along its entire length. I would recommend starting off without any barrel contact; you can always add it later if deemed necessary.

Re: bedding factory stocks

Using epoxy is like taking a woman out on a date. No matter how much you mix / how much money you have......never enough lol. You need the epoxy to ooze out past the sides of what you are bedding to insure full coverage. Like I said before, practice does make perfect. Before long your bedding jobs will be professional!
