Gunsmithing Bedding Question?

Which is better?
Stopping the bedding at the front of the recoil lug or an inch or so pass the recoil lug?
Is there a reason that gun smiths do it one way or the other?

On heavy contours, it is not optional on a rifle. If it is a sporter weight, it becomes customer preference. An inch in front of the lug on a sporter wont hurt, so either way is good.

I do 2" on everything, and never had any regrets.......
