Are mil spec 6 pos stock/buffer tubes worth the extra $$?

And what is needed to switch out a carbine to make it a mid length..

Gas tube.. Barrel.. Hand guard.. Correct??

I have my mouse over the purchase button as we speak.. Im looking at getting a BCM milspec 6 pos stock for $65 and a BCM 16" m4 upper.

I want a midlength but love the look of a carbine. I've made up my mind to just get the carbine and swap it out to midlength later or just buy a complete mid upper and then make a full middy later on.

Re: BEFORE I BUY....

Yea I know I only use either 6 or 1 my self. but its nice to have the other options for my buddies that I go out shooting with.

My main concern is the milspec over standard. Is the extra oh say $20 - $30 worth it for the milspec tube and stock?

Is there any advantages to either?

Re: BEFORE I BUY....

Ok another Q now.. after googling.. BCM BCG or LMT BCG..

Same price but A lot of people opt for the LMT why?

I was told BCM's full auto group was top notch.

Re: BEFORE I BUY....

Milspec can mean a few things. Primarily, it refers to the different diameter. However, the manufacturing process can be also be different. I'm not aware of any commercial tubes that aren't made of extruded aluminum. The original Colt tubes were forged. LMTs, which are also milspec, are EXTRUDED 7075 with a T6 temper per their current contract.

As for the BCG, you can't go wrong with either LMT or BCM.

Re: BEFORE I BUY....

Where can you buy a cold 6 pos stock? I googles and nothing came up...

And is $65 for a BCM mil spec stock too much??
Average M4 stocks ive seen are around $70.. Whats a good M4 stock brand for a decent price? or is that a fair price?

Re: BEFORE I BUY....

Wow i forgot mag pul stocks are only $60 too.. Hmmm now you got me thinking.. haha

Edit: Wait jk ill still need a buffer tube..

Re: BEFORE I BUY....

The BCM BCG and LMT BCG are both excellent units. Both are milspec* and conform to the proper testing methods.

*The LMT has a MIM gas key that a lot of folks on the interwebs have bitched about. I have not seen any edvidence that this is inferior to the milled gas key. The LMT keys are not chrome lined IIRC. I think it got too much hype for being bad without any proof.

I think the BCM BCG is a really nicely machined piece. I'd choose BCM, Colt, Noveske or LMT in no particular order.

Re: BEFORE I BUY....

Just took the plunge.

Bought a BCM 16" M4 upper w/ Full auto BCM BCG

and a Mil spec M4 stock w/ buffer tuble assembly.

shipped for $580.

Ill keep you in mind marsh when I am ready to pick up a magpul MOE stock.

Re: BEFORE I BUY....

Most people do not realize that LMT makes a ton of "other" peoples parts.

I would be very happy with both companies parts and I currently own and use BCM and LMT BCG's along with two Colt full circle's and all three are honestly the same.

BCM and Colt Carrier prob. gets the edge just cause the whole ghey mim key thing(tested to 25k rds. and to date Ive yet to hear about a failure) but most agree that LMT easily makes the best bolt in the biz.

LMT also is usually regarded by industry professionals as making the best Receiver Ext. Tube and if you ever buy a LMT sopmod on a LMT tube you will understand why.....straight up hydraulic in feel and the LMT tube is just that much better than everyone else's imo.
