So I am new to bolt actions and scopes etc.

I wanted to get into beginner bench shooting. My range goes out to 300 yards.

I got a Ruger Precision Rifle in .308 and just bought a Nikon FX100 MRAD 4-16.

I need a mount for my scope now. The scope is a 30mm with 50mm Objective.

Should I get Rings or a Mount?

Anyone recommend any brands or types? I am new to this, so not very sure what to get.

I like the idea of a mount, since you can easily take the scope on and off. but I am unsure of the pros and cons between Rings and mounts.

ARC M10 rings.

They are high quality, and the best feature is the mounting system. It's a clever clamshell design, which utilizes one bolt per ring to mount the scope. This makes it much easier for the end user to mount a scope, while still accomplishing the proper retention on the scope tube.

When I started off in this sport, I used Badger USMC rings. They were a pain in the butt to mount a scope to, as there was a total of 10 little screws you had to go around and around torquing down equally, hoping the top ring cap would be torqued down level. If not, u torque all the screws and try again (very common occurrence).

IMO, the M10 is the best design out there, and easiest on the end user.

ARC M10 rings are the nicest rings I have used. I have a bunch of Badger rings as well.

If your looking to get a good deal I would just jump into the PX section and buy a pair of badgers or seekins rings for around $100. Seekins is usually around $80ish. ARC rings are selling for more and are always in 34mm when I'm looking for them. I needed a a couple pairs of 30mm so I grabbed two sets of badgers so I'm recommending what I really use.

I use Badger Ordnance rings on all my rifles. Rings isn't somewhere you want to skimp. Your scope is a precision optical device and the rings are the connection. Kudos to the OP for asking.

When mounting scope to rings, I use a fixture I built to check a scopes tracking.

I level the rail on the fixture, then shine a flashlight through the object and use a plumbbob to level the reticle. I use feeler guages to ensure the ring cap is the same on both sides of the scope ring.
