My first and only bolt gun, this 300 win mag is built on a Remington stainless receiver, Krieger 5R varmint profile cut to 24' and threaded, APA 'Little Bastard' muzzle brake,
Jewell Trigger, Surgeon bottom metal, AICS mags, Manners T3 stock.

It's sporting a Nightforce ATACR mil/mil, with Nightforce 20 MOA base, 1.125 Ultralight rings and a Holland level.

Krieger trued the action, threaded the barrel, timed the brake and turned it down flush. I pillar bedded it myself.

I broke in the barrel and zeroed it today. 14 rounds down the pipe, so far. The last pic is a three-round group shot at 100 yards with Federal SMK 190s from bags, measuring .23" center to center. There is black tape over previous sight-in shots. This was the last group of the day.

I think I'm going to be happy with this. The Little Bastard brake is AMAZING. This gun recoils less than my 308 gas-gun.

When cleaning the barrel, and especially during break in (due to the great number of times the rod has to be pushed and pulled down the bore), I would suggest moving the rod in a breech to muzzle direction utilizing a quality bore guide to protect the barrel.

Possum Hollow Bore Guide #6 Browning A-Bolt Remington Ruger

That one is made out of delrin (solvent resistant) and is fairly inexpensive.

Thanks. I was not able to clean from the breach-end because of my temporary, taped-up cheek-riser. I was, however, only pulling the patches and brushes in the direction of bullet travel, and using my thumb and forefinger to keep the rod centered in the mouth of the muzzle brake.

I did tire of this after a few cleanings, and I ripped the taped-up padding off and just placed a pad between my cheek and the comb to shoot. I DO need a cheek-riser or stock pack. The one that looked the best to me from Triad Tactical https://www.triadtactical.com/Triad-Stock-Pack.html isn't being sold until further notice (???) Any suggestions are appreciated.

The Karsten kydex models look functional, if a little clunky. If all else fails, i have some 3/16 Kydex I may use to make something custom.

Cacciatore, your point is well-taken. I will get that bore guide added to my next order from Brownell's.

Thanks, y'all. It's no small amount of change for me. To have it shoot a group like that early on was gratifying and frankly, a relief! I was nervous about the bedding job, but I did my research and took my time prepping. This 9 part youtube tutorial from "suar08161991" was indispensable:

If you are out there, suar08161991, THANKS!

One thing that was almost catastrophic was that a marble-sized glob of Marine Tex squirted up through the forward action screw hole and hardened behind the locking lugs before I even noticed it. In retrospect, it's probably good that i didn't notice it right away, because I was able to push it out in one piece by running the action screw up underneath it. If I had seen it right away, I would have been trying to wipe it out of there and probably making it worse.

Obviously there was enough oil in the locking lug area to act as a release agent. I had instant visions of ripping the barrel back off the thing to have that crap machined out of there. WHEW! The gods were with me, apparently.
