Gunsmithing Bell & carlson stock question..

I just got my new bell & carlson stock today and after I installed it I noticed the barrel is close to the right side of the barrel channel. Its still free floates pretty good but im concerned about the barrel not being center of the stock. Also the magazine plate does not want to close all the way and latch if the trigger guard screws are tightend all the way. Some advice about this would greatly be appreciated!

I'd contact them and see what they say. It sounds like something ain't true and somethings in a bind. Wouldn't be as concerned about barrel channel, but rather why the bottom metal binds!

My barrel was a little offset, but not near that much. I'd recommend just sanding the channel out to make it look even, but with your floorplate binding, you've got something more serious going on.

What non-OEM parts do you have, other than the stock? Also, what action/rifle is this?

I will contact them tmw. Its just a remington 700 vsf .308 no custom parts.

I agree that the barrel being off center isnt something to be concerned about per say. Personally it would bug me alot just because Im that way and like things to be symetrical. The bottom metal binding though is definitely not good. Is it contacting near the front like were it hinges. It may be necessary to mill it out. I would try to get in contact with them though and get a replacement as it should be a drop in fit without issue in my opinion. My Bell and Carlson although I didn't have it installed fits perfect centered barrel etc. Let us know what happens when you get in contact with them.

Loosen the screws and close the bottom metal.

Re-torque the front and rear screws and it should work fine. If it does, the bump the mid screw tight.

Sand the barrel channel

Thats what I done and it works great! It seems like the trigger guard sits 1/16 into the stock more than needed. What kind of sand paper do you recommend? I dont have a clue.

3/4" dowel, 80 grit, 150, and 200...if you want it to look smooth. I had some barrel contact in mine and just sanded the whole barrel channel with 80 grit.
