Sold this a few weeks ago. It was a great home defense gun and fine for starting out in 3-gun. The receiver is half an inch shorter than the 1301 Comp 3-gun version, something I didn't realize until I threw good money after bad, It really does slow down your loading considerably. The ghost ring sights are out of favor with 3Gun too, they seem a bit slower. Still all the 1301s are solid guns that cycle the fastest (imho) and have less recoil being gas rather than inertia. The Tacticool guys with side saddles still thumb them in slowly so it doesn't matter if you're training with Vickers or Sgt Rock.
I rethought things and went back to a traditional 3-gun shotgun, in my case a Franchi Affinity with the entire package of mods including a gigantic loading port and modified trigger guard that has a notch to help guide the shells in. It's a LOT faster. But it's also a larger gun with a 26" barrel and a 10-round tube (about the same length) that isn't really a defense gun unless you're outside. I used to have a Benelli M2 set up similarly and I honestly think the Franchi is superior (larger loading port)(recoil spring up front where you can see it rather than in the stock).
Also owned the 1301 Comp when it first came out and probably should have simply stopped right there. All three Italian made brands - Beretta, Benelli, and Franchi - are owned by Beretta (as well as several others like Stoeger, Tikka, and Taurus). Fit and finish of the Italian made guns is all very high, the Turkish and Brazilian made ones are serviceable.
Home defense? Truth is I'm answering the door with a pistol. I no longer think swinging a shotgun down the stairs is a good idea and having a shorter size limits the number of rounds I can dispense. Do a few mock drills in your own house and be brutally honest, I don't think I want to be using a long gun unless I am prepared ahead of time, not groggy in the dark at 330 am.
