I am in the market for a new long range hunting rifle and have decided on either the 6.5 PRC or 300 PRC for a caliber. I am looking for some feedback on the Bergara rifles being I cannot seem to locate the Highlander or Ridgeback to actually lay my hands on and touch. Does any one have experience shooting either of these models ?

Thanks

Since no one has responded I'll take a crack at this.

I have no direct experience with either of those rifles BUT I did own a Bergara HMR. Mine was a 1/2 MOA tack driver with both cheap Hornady American Gunner and handloads. If you some research on Bergara, I think you'll find they're well made, good shooting rifles.

Also, make sure you do some research on those two cartridge choices, I didn't realize how dramatically different they are from on another.

+1 to that. It would be interesting to see if anyone has done a comparison between the 6.5 PRC and the 300 PRC. I guess the 300 PRC is closer to the knock down power of the .300 WM with a lesser recoil??

No. The 300 PRC is a larger more powerful case than the 300 Win Mag. Has more recoil too. It will only function in long actions.

The 6.5 PRC is built on a shortened version of the same case and will function in short actions.

That's why I mentioned researching the two cartridges. I assumed the 6.5 was a necked down version of the 300; it's not. It is shortened and necked down.

Side by side of the two cases in question.

Not quite. 300 prc offers slightly better performance at extended ranges than the 300 win mag. The 300 prc does have slightly more recoil than a 300 win mag.

I have a highlander and I like it a lot. There is a pretty significant weight difference between those two rifles I believe. Not sure I would want to haul a ridgeback all day long.

While I don’t have a 6.5PRC or 300 PRC. I do have a couple Bergaras. 1 hmr, 1 hmr pro, and 1 ridgeback. All are nice and shoot really well. You can tell the pro and ridgeback are a little nicer and smoother. But only slightly more accurate. All 3 nice guns. I wouldnt hesitate to get any of them in 300 or 6.5 PRC
