Berger 109 hybrids in 6BR

@Dthomas3523 im about to have a dasher barrel spun up for my AI. I’d imagine you’re getting just about zero recoil with this load?

I run everything under 2950 in all my rifles. So I’m probably not the best to compare recoil.

I will say, BR cases have a “snap” recoil and 6cm and 6x47 have a “push” recoil.

I am planning to settle around 2850 with my dasher I figure that’ll be good enough. I also always shoot suppressed and not with a brake so that’ll change it up as well

That is exactly what I hope for too. My 6 creedmoor was fine out far but when u shooting unstable at close range it’s hard to catch your impact sometimes.

So u trued velocity around 600 yards and the bc was good at 1000

Truing is best when you do it as close to transonic as possible is you can. Meaning, my 6BR goes transonic at about 1200 so I true at 1000 and verify all the way back to 300. Then I tune the BC.

Your BC truing is important if you plan to shoot something within the transonic range.

I tried the 109s in my 6BR and could not get it to shoot at all, went back to the 105's with better results. My reamer is a .094 freebore and a .271 neck. The 109's in it worked ok with 29.2 grains of powder and .015 off the lands at 2760 ft/s 24" 4 groove krieger barrel on an impact. Bug holes at 100, shit at 1000. Test them at distance if you decide to use them.

Yeah I chambered a longer freebore at 113 so I could get the 109 where it needs to be. I will say the 105’s shoot lights out too. 30.2 for 109 and 30 for 105. Almost identical calls.

Agreed with this .just trying to see how op trued his bc up

Have you tried those 107smk. I have that same barrel.

So, you’re saying you think the bullets are not consistent?

The only way to bug hole at 100 and not at 1k is either

Shooter
Velocity
BC

If you have acceptable ES with chrono, that takes care of velocity (I’m assuming you checked that).

So, are you thinking the 109’s were inconsistent from bullet to bullet? That’s the only way it will shoot well at 100 and not at 1k.

you already know I can’t shoot, since I spend my time at matches wearing white knee pads and bee keeper hats.

all I can tell you is...I went back to 105s with zero issues.

My experience with the 109’s in a 6 Comet is they like to jump. When I first shot them I was at .020” off with half moa or so groups. After talking to some other guys at matches I pushed them back to .060” off and that was one ragged hole and good at distance as well. I’ve shot them in all 5 of my NRL matches this year and they seem to work just fine.

One thing to keep in mind is that you dont want the bearing surface of the bullet to go deeper than the neck-shoulder junction to avoid the whole donut area. Depending on your FB, that may affect where you seat.

I would try that area for sure. I’ve set mine at .060” from first rounds down the barrel and haven’t changed it since. That’s over 3 different barrels also.
Also doing a 6BR build with 28” iBi/New Lapua brass/Berger 109. Would you be kind enough to share what reamer print/specs was working best for such a build based on the above components.
