Loading up 215 Berger Hybrids for my CA Ridgeline 300 win mag. I measured a seating depth to the lands of 2.885". However, I found I would have feeding issues at .01-.02 off the lands due to the COAL and the sharp point of the bullet poking squarely into the ramp from the mag well into the chamber.
I am at the point where I am seating 0.1 off the lands. Again, I am new to reloading, but I am starting to wonder if I might be better off with a (less pointy, less bullet in front of the ogive) type round. Maybe an Accubond. My primary purpose for the rifle is hunting and I don't see myself shooting much past 500 yards.
Secondly, I am using a Forster Ultra Micrometer die for seating and I am noticing I have inconsistencies of .005 when using a Hornady comparator to measure CBTO. I am trying to figure out what is causing my inconsistency. I am using a RCBS Supreme press and the die appears to be seated firmly. Looking at the seating stem seems like it should not hit the nose of the bullet on this die.
Any help is appreciated. Take it easy on me as I am totally new to reloading. I have only reloaded for one other rifle with Accubonds and RCBS dies and didn't run into these issues.
Thanks
