I participated in the first test for the 155's and 168's. I don't have a 1 in 11 twist or faster so I'm just passing on the great opportunity to the hide members. Good Luck

Hi everyone! We’re ready to start our next test, and are looking for people who can shoot our 30 cal 185 and 200 gr Hybrid bullets. These bullets were designed to shoot in an 11” or faster twist barrel. We need people who will be able to complete the testing by Aug 15th. Also, due to shipping and customs restrictions, we will only be able to include people within the continental US on the initial test. If you are interested, please send me an email at [email protected] with the following information:

-Name, contact and shipping information.
-Type of rifle you will use to test these bullets.
-Type of test you plan to conduct.

We are looking for a variety of testing methods, so feel free to test them however you would normally test a new component. Those who are selected will be shipped 1 box each of our new 30 cal 185 and 200 gr Hybrid bullets right away. We will need you to report your results to us by Aug 15th. Those who provide their results by then will receive another 3 boxes (300 bullets) of any Berger Bullets you choose as a Thank-You from us for your time and effort.

We encourage those who are selected to report their results on this forum. This testing program will be a regular part of our process, so keep an eye out for other opportunities down the road. Thank you all, and please let us know if you have any questions!

Warm Regards,
Michelle

Re: Berger Hybrid Bullets / Testers Needed

bjordan, how did you like the 168's. I have been looking at those, on paper that really looks attractive, enough so that it has me second guessing 6.5's or 7mm's as my next build.

It's hoped to be the best of both a BTHP (Tangent ogive for freindly jumping into the lands) and VLD (Secant ogive for high bc) with a longer boat tail making for a much higher BC projectile. 155 BC at .483g1, 168 BC at .519g1

The 168's shot great in my 26" 12 twist barell. I consistently get .5 moa out to 300 yards which is the farthest I've shot them. I loaded them 2.810 which is a long ways from my lands and they shot great. 44.2 grains or RL-15 was my sweet spot.

Re: Berger Hybrid Bullets / Testers Needed

Thank you sir for posting this up. I wasn't aware this was going on, and glad the opportunity has presented itself. I shoot their 190 VLD's and hunting VLD's. I'm interested in these bullets, and also in the offer to get 300 free bullets from them for posting the results.

Re: Berger Hybrid Bullets / Testers Needed

I got my email yesterday afternoon that they're sending me some bullets to test. I'm looking forward to gettin gthem and testing some loads. I'll post up some photos if some people are interested. Thanks again for posting this, I wouldn't have seen it otherwise.

Re: Berger Hybrid Bullets / Testers Needed

How are you gonna test them? I plan to shoot the 185s in my .308 (10" twist Hart HV barrel) and the 200s in my factory .300 Win Mag 700P (10" twist factory varmint contour). I haven't decided loads yet because I'll have to make bullet profiles for Quickload. But I'm sure it'll be somewhere around 45 grains or so of RL-17, Win 760, or VV N550 for the .308 and around 75 grains of RL-22 or 78 grains of RL-25 for the Win Mag. I'm gonna shoot them at 600, 800, 900, and 1000 yds. I might even shoot them in a match coming up on the 20th since the results aren't due 'til the 22nd.

Re: Berger Hybrid Bullets / Testers Needed

I'll probably work up a load just like I do for any other bullet. I'll find the accuracy node at 300 yards and then start looking at seating depth. I'll try to get some small numbers at 100 yards (which isn't everything), and then start seeing how they dope at 500-1,000 yards. They'll be tested in my custom .300 WSM, which is built on a long action. It has a 26" Kriger 1:10 twist, fluted, Sendero contour. Since I can seat the VLD's to actually touch the lands, I'll probably see how they shoot out there. My petload is with the 190 VLD's and some RL-22. It likes 65.5 grain of RL-22 with the 190 Bergers seated just barely into the lands. I'll start just a bit below that load and see what I get. I'm also going to seat them at or below standard short action magazine length and see how they hold up in terms of accuracy and velocity there, since I know lots of guys are going to try shooting these in short action magazine length.

Re: Berger Hybrid Bullets / Testers Needed

Got the new hybrid 185s and 200s just a few minutes ago. Good looking bullets. The BCs are listed as .569 G1 / .291 G7 for the 185s and .621/.320 for the 200s.

Now the fun begins...

I got mine in the mail today also. I was impressed to see that the 185's are actually longer than the 190 VLD's and basically have the same BC. The 200's are the same length (with the naked eye) as the 210 VLD's. The bullets are quite handsome and interesting looking. I already for 21 of the 185's loaded up for optimum charge weight testing in my .300 WSM. I think I'll get a chance to take them for a spin tomorrow. I'll try to get some pictures up sometime in the near future for those curious. I'm with G.Ruff, now the fun begins.

Re: Berger Hybrid Bullets / Testers Needed

I measured the 185 Hybrids versus the 185 VLD. The Hybrid is 1.438" long and the VLD is 1.344". The Hybrid also has a longer boattail.

I also measured the 200 Hybrid versus the 210 VLD. The Hybrid is 1.505" long and the 210 VLD is 1.472". The 200 also has a longer boattail than the 210.

The meplats on both the 185s and 200s measured .070" and were very uniform without the usual burrs and metal flashing.

I'll post some pics when I find the cable for my camera. I'm quite impressed with the quality of these bullets.

I haven't measured all of the bullets yet, but your measurements sound like exactly what I was seeing. I also noticed that the boat tails on the Hybrids were longer than comparable bullets, and even bullets of heavier weights. I also thought the meplats looked better and more uniform. I need to take some photos too when I get a bit more time. I'm also impressed with the quality of the bullets.

Today I finally got to test the bunch that I had loaded up for optimum charge weight with RL-22. Honestly, most of what I tested shot the lights out. At 300 yards over a pretty wide range of charges (65.6-66.2 grains), the vertical was less than 1/2" for those charge weights. I fired 3 rounds per charge weight, which some of those weights were outside of the 1/2" vertical. I did notice some slight changes in primers as I worked up higher, so I know where I need to be. I'm very impressed with how the bullets shoot, and how easily I've been able to find a load with these bullets. Maybe I just got lucky, we'll see with the 200 grainers, gotta OCW them next.

Re: Berger Hybrid Bullets / Testers Needed

I'm a little late to the party and haven't had time to post much between work and testing these. I had some photos of the boxes, which were a bit different from the other boxes. If you look at the circle below the center, it's no longer the open sights one, it's a TMR style reticle over a silhoutte target. I also wanted to include them because they showed the numbers for these bullets. In my experience the numbers seem to be correct, and possibly even a bit on the conservative side, although I didn't run them through 2 chronographs, so I didn't get the numbers for them. I was VERY impressed with the 185's, and if others are interested in the results, I'll post up a copy of the email I sent to Berger. Here's the couple of photos I had from when the boxes just came in and I loaded up the first OCW test. You'll have to excuse the pics, they're from a cellphone.
