Looking to build another 6.5 creedmoor AR and I’m looking for a good barrel with a longer gas system and would like to be 20-22”. I have an aero M5 that I put together with a criterion 18” 6.5 creedmoor barrel that shoots fantastic but the shorter barrel and rifle length gas beats the hell out of brass. I have been looking hard at the proof research 20” stainless with +2 gas. Would this be a good way to go to get the most out of brass life? My current rifle has a full mass bcg with jp bolt and the jp scs with 3 tungsten weights and the stiffest spring. It also has a superlative arms gas block and brass ejects at 3:30 with a can on it. It runs really smooth but primer pockets get loose after 2-3 firings and factory 143 eldx blows primers.

I’m very happy with my rifle+2 barrel from compass lake.

If I were to do it again I wouldn’t change a thing. I sent them a rock creek blank but would have no reservations taking a Bart or Krieger off their shelf. If you have a 1.2-1.25 straight blank the will contour it how you want, put the gas port where you want, at the port size you want, and chamber the cartridge you want.

I use a 24 inch Proof Research carbon fiber rifle+2 barrel in a JP LRP-07. This is with a JP low mass carrier and the JP SCS H2 buffer (two W weights) with a JP adjustable gas block. Starline Brass comes out perfect with 41.9gr H4350, 140gr ELD-M, CCI450. Even with the over-pressure (IMO) factory Berger 140gr ammo, brass comes out fine.

The necks have a very light mark from the barrel extension, which is actually handy since you can tell how many times the brass has been reloaded before the primer pockets give in...

I don't know know if you are interested in a carbon fiber barrel, but it's hard to beat the results of my 22" Carbon Proof Research barrel shooting factory loaded Hornady 140gr ELD-M.

I've been shooting Ar10's for close to 20 yrs now.
Best barrels I have found are the Proof Research Carbon barrels.
Mine are almost bolt gun accurate and have never let me down.
I run a 20" w/ +2" gas system and it was extremely easy to reload for.

Have you used Proof steel barrels to compare the carbon barrels to?
