Re: Best Budget Spotting Scope..?

Check Ebay and your local Craigslist. Birdwatchers are notorious for buying decent scopes and then getting bored with their hobby and selling off their gear. I got an older Bausch & Lomb Elite ED 80mm scope from a birdwatcher who wanted to sell it because it was "too heavy", got it for $189, glass is perfect, the only defect was about 4 tiny chips in the paint on the tube. While it isn't a Kowa, it is better then anything you're going to find in a store for that price point.

Re: Best Budget Spotting Scope..?

I've looked through and have heard a lot of good feedback on Konus scopes. By all accounts, it's a pretty decent scope for the money. The only complaints I've heard are on the tripod and the case. Mr.Mildot ran a group buy for Konus scopes a while back, but I'm not sure if he is a dealer. You may want to send him a PM.

Re: Best Budget Spotting Scope..?

I use a Konus 20-60x80 with good results. Glass is clear and the eye relief isn't stupid. Last week I easily spotted .223 holes at 300 yards on a sunny day. The tripod that comes with it is a joke though. Clarity starts to decrease at max mag, but that's to be expected.

Midwayusa has them on sale for $197.99 right now: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=466045
