Garmin 530HCx

Been using GPS before it was commercial - there were only 3 SVs with very limited availability. I have used Trimbles for land surveying & mapping, and Magellan and Garmins for offshore navigation.

Then I used a friend's 530HCx and was so impressed with the receiver performance, I bought one. It will attain 3D position inside buildings.

The unit is feature packed, including barometer. An SD card can be added for USGS topo maps. There is an integrated FRS/GMRS radio that when enabled, will transmit coordinates to another 530 and indicate location on map display - a great feature at the lease.

Got mine at Fry's on sale - $399

The GPSMAP 60CSx is essentially the same unit without the radio.

Good luck on your quest.

I have a DeLorme PN-20. I believe the current model is the PN-40.

With TopoUSA software, which gives you topo maps of the entire U.S., I can download topo map data from my PC to the GPS. It's a great GPS for hiking use.

It's not a very good GPS for auto use, but I have a TomTom for that.

I have a Garmin C60CS and I'm a bit disappointed with it. They've included stupid features like games and such that, if you're out in the field, you're not going to use. In my opinion, it's just a waste of memory, battery power and processor capability.

Garmin Oregon 400T. Got mine a few months ago along with some landownership maps and couldnt be happier with it.
