What is your best powder brand/grain load for .300 Win. mag. with 220 - 230 gr. bullets?

Currently I am using:
1. Norma brass
2. Federal magnum primers (#215 M)
3. Berger 230 gr. Tactical bullets

25" s.s. HS precision 1:10 twist barrel
Rem. s.s. action
HS Precision stock (similar to Army M24)

I know primers can make a difference but I have found the most consistent results with different powders and bullet weights/shapes using Federal #215 M primers.

I am loading the 230 gr hybrid. Win brass, cci magnum primers, h1000 73.8 grs, 2.936" oal to the ogive, about 2700 fps, 26" barrel

Thanks Targa. (You don't happen to be one of the Ferraristi by any chance?) Exactly the feedback I wanted since your are using the same weight but with a slightly longer match bullet and a better BC.

I was using 71.5 gr. of H4831 for Lapua 190 gr. match bullets. I've never loaded 230 gr. before. I'll try H1000 in September. Too hot here in 'Vegas to go to the range and test loads right now.
I'll do my standard increase of 0.5 grains every 5 rounds beginning with the lowest recommended load.

I've had my resizing die neck expander turned down a few thousands to give the neck a better grip on the bullet. That in conjunction with lightly polishing the inside of the necks seems to help in making the tested MV more consistant. Details, details.

I am just beginning to experiment with the 230 out of my 300wm
I loaded a series of H1000 ending at 75.8 gr. Chrony was acting up, but it looked like 2825 fps (crudely verified by mil drop at 500 yds). That was jumping .040"

Have you experimented with sensitivity to jump? I'd like to load even shorter to ensure smooth AICS mag feeding

Tifosi is what you mean? I love all fast cars. I did a bit of race car driving before I got serious about precision shooting.
Paul: What's your barrel length? Your numbers seem high. Here's what Quickload says:

I am seating in the lands and will move back to look for a possible improvement with some jump next. Not enough time and access to ranges over 100 yds near me for frequent load development efforts...

And I just bought a M96 Swede in 6.5x55!

Bob Lee: Nice group! You can seat at .030" jump and feed through the standard AI mags? Sweet. What's the OAL?

3.570" OAL / 2.866" @ Ogive

Do those quick load numbers interchange with the hybrid target rounds?

Re: Best load .300 win mag W/Berger 230 gr. Tactical?

74.5 Retumbo 10/1000"s off the lands. 3014 fps out of A 30" Broughton 1/4 moa

Anyone tried N570 with the 230 hybid tactical? Just loaded some up 300wm 26" 10 twist:
75.3gr N570
Federal case
215 Federal Match primer
3.340 C.O.A.L.

C.O.A.L. seems deep to me but Berger recomended that lenth, going to try them this weekend.

I am not sure how much i would rely on QL. I have a 21.5" 300win mag Broughton 5c barrel. And i shoot Ramshot Magnum (which is amazing btw) with 80.0gr using Hornady 225bthp at 2840 ft/sec all day and it is sub-1/2 MOA. With a longer barrel i have chatted with some members here that are pushing the 225-233-gr variety north of ~2950ft ft/sec and 208 amax north of 3050 ft/sec.

Alpha, QL will not get close to the actual velocities that my broughton is getting. However it's spot on with my creedmor. Beats me... Guess our bbl's are really fast on our win mags
Btw.. I tried some ram shot mag this morning with a 230 Berger and it was HAULING ASS but it didn't shoot nearly as well as my Retumbo loads. It was pushing the 230 at 2965 fps with virgin Winchester brass. Actually had a little over pressure.

With magnum you have to just have to tune it to your barrel. With the 225bthp i went up to 81.5gr and if my memory serves me correct got up to 2910ft/sec. This a 21.5" barrel and 225gr pills lol. But groups had opened up. But 80.0 was spot on and and very accurate. You have a longer barrel so it may take even less powder but you can definitely make sub-1/2 moa groups with Ramshot Magnum and still be 100ft/sec faster than Retumbo.
