I got a Remington 700 in 7mm08 and had some loads made with the 162 Hornady Amax bullet. Drove me crazy at the range because the polymer tip of the Hornady kept getting stock on the front of my magazine and creating constant feeding problems.

So, looking for best match bullet for 7mm08 that will not have similar issue. Would like to try and stay with a relatively heavy bullet for BC, could obviously take down the weight and get a much smaller bullet.

Any ideas are welcome. Thanks.

Re: Best Match Bullet - 7mm08

what velocity are you looking to get, the BC is great on most most of the 7mm heavyweights but you wont be able to push them very fast out of a 7-08 to get their full potential.

Depending on what range you are looking to shoot and what twist barrel you have I would shoot Sierra or berger 168's as the heaviest, but there is nothing wrong with a 150gr bullet and pushing it a little faster.

Re: Best Match Bullet - 7mm08

I've wondered about the question you raise. Was looking at what bullet was best for hunting and had a discussion with Barnes about their LRX bullets. They make a 145g and a 168g and the Barnes guy felt that the 7-08 would not push the 168g enough to justify stepping up to the higher BC's. Felt that the benefit of the higher BC would take a long time to kick in and at under 500yds, the 145g at higher velocity would be a better choice.

So, I'm going to take more of a look in the 150g selection. Any specific ideas? Just go matchking or berger?

If you are going to be using this for a hunting bullet I probably would not go with a matchking, it can be done and I have killed plenty of animals with them but they have a pretty thing jacket and break up pretty good on most animals. Sierra does have a new 7mm-140gr hpbt that has a nasty skive on the tip. I have heard of people shooting big game with this bullet out of a 7-08. Not the best BC but out of a 7-08 I bet they will flat out hammer whatever you are hunting, and they wont cost you an arm and a leg.
