best muzzle break for a 338 lapua?

Re: best muzzle break for a 338 lapua?

we tried a fat bastard first, worked very well it just was very loud at the shooter. The we went to the badger, the gun kicks more but we didn't get as much concussion? so its kind of a sacrifice one way or the other.

No offense taken here! I'm all about learning. Do you think the increase in surface area of the FB is responsible for more efficient recoil management?

The honest answer is that I don't know why one is more effective than the other. My speculation is that its the angle that the FB uses to divert the gas that makes it a more effective break. It is a very aggressive reward angle and is why its so loud (maybe????). I don't think that its that the FB has more chambers because I believe that I read somewhere that 95% of the recoil reduction happens in the first 2 chambers with the majority of that 95% being in the first chamber. This was not specific to the FB but rather it was a general statement about muzzle breaks.

The rearward angle makes a lot of sense, I bet you're right. You've gone and done it now, I'll have to build another rifle with a FB brake
