Rifle Scopes Best Night Vision Scope For The Price

Re: Best Night Vision Scope For The Price

Check out Laser Genetics they have a product thats basically a large green laser. Light is concentrated in a focused beam that is aligned with your rifle scope. From everything I've read, it's the bee's knee's.

I have read about that too. I am tempted to try it. Beware it is made by BSA (i think) and I have heard of issues running it in cold and also that the customer service stinks. Since I live in Texas and very rarely hunt in sub40 weather outside of deer season .......... I am thinking the nd3 might be the ticket.

By the way to the original poster, I have a Gen 1 night vision scope ......... After you look through a Gen 3, there is no comparison. However, if all you are doing is shooting short ranges, like over a corn feeder, you will be fine. If you are wanting to shoot a 'yote at several hundred yards, you will be stretching it for anything in your price range. Your best bet, and what I am doing, is to save up for at least a Gen 2+ and better yet a Gen 3.

Good Luck, YMMV.

I looked at it, and it has problems..... I will be hunting in the Adirondack Mountains, of NY, where it is -5 to -40 degrees. The laser does not work under +40 degrees.

Re: Best Night Vision Scope For The Price

I too purchased one of the more inexpensive NV scopes a few years ago. I was less than impressed with its performance. At the time I was doing a great deal of predator hunting at night so I purchased a Gen 3+ PVS14 with a near flawless optic. That thing is amazing. On the darkest night I can read a book and see good detail.

Also on this model I can wear it as headgear and walk with it or I can snap it on my AR and use it in conjunction with my Eotech.

I will post photos of it here soon as I am thinking of selling the AR and all the NV equipment and putting the money into another long range stick and glass.

Get back to me if you can. Thanx!

Also it depends on if you are wanting something to use in no moon/star nights with almost no ambient light. With ambient light my gen 1 will pick up critters from several hundred yards away ........ If you want something for those really dark nights, gen 2 or 3 is the way to go. Also pick up a TNVC ELR Torch for those dark nights or something similar ..........

Re: Best Night Vision Scope For The Price

I have a SureFire mounted on my AR with the NV lens on it. When I need to light something up it does a great job with the NV goggles on. Great for shooting yotes and coons.

I am going to drag things out today and shoot some pics.

Re: Best Night Vision Scope For The Price

What sight do you use to acquire the vermin with the goggles?

Re: Best Night Vision Scope For The Price

The setup I have been using is an EoTech in NV mode. The NV system has a quick release that goes on the rail. Simply setup the EoTech, focus the NV and wait for the target. If I see something and do not have quite enough light I would hit the rail mounted SureFire

If this does not sell or trade I will probably use it again this spring. It is a bunch of fun.

Re: Best Night Vision Scope For The Price

Get you a Starlight. They remind me of the oldin days when beepers and phones looked like they should be on the Flinstones. JK. I have a friend who has a ND3 and seems to work very well...Ill give him a shout and find out for you his observation on cold weather use.

Re: Best Night Vision Scope For The Price

A select gen 2+ tube in a D-740 or D-760 makes a nice package. Great scopes with a good reputation for durability, the ability to go from red reticle to amber is nice. I really like the Amber reticle, very easy on the eyes. The reticle is also as nice as the Raptor, infinitely adjustable for intensity as well as very fine. Gen 2+ is "very" close to 3rd generation less 1000.00, makes for a pretty nice deal. I second the IR Illuminator. I have the torch and like it very well.

Re: Best Night Vision Scope For The Price

This is a question we get asked a lot of and we always tell folks to at least save for a Gen 2 system if they can. No matter what the price of a Gen 1, it's usually never worth looking through a "fish bowl" to see and and shoot something. We agree with the other posters, and the D-740/760's are presently the best scope in its price range. Hope this helps.
