I'm sorry if this is a retarded question I have no military training. Whats the best close to medium range optic for a helmet mounted nv? Or am I better off with a ir laser? Thanks

Re: Best optic for helmet mounted nv

So a pvs-14 with helmet mount is what I'm looking at. Will I be able to see through an eotech or aimpoint? Why wont I be able to see an ir laser? I thought thats what they are for.

Re: Best optic for helmet mounted nv

I have used EoTech 552's and trijicon acog's with great success with PVS 14's. The EoTech I prefered because I could leave them on my helmet and snap the rifle up and get a quick acquisition of the dot and take the shot.

The acog I found to be more difficult to use unless you mounted the PVS14 to the weapon. Now you are aiming your rifle at everything unless you have a second pair of NVG's.

You can use NVG's with IR laser's. That is what they were designed for.

Re: Best optic for helmet mounted nv

oldcoast, i misread your question. With the NVD you will be able to see the IR laser, i read it as you were looking to go with either the NVD or IR designator. You will be able to see the IR beam with NVDs, i personally like the Eotechs with NVDs, they are easier than the Aimpoint of ACOG to get a sight picture and shoot quicker. The PVS14 is a monocular so make sure if you get those, you set it up on the eye that will allow the quickest shouldering and firing of the weapon.

PVS-14's with an Eotech is the setup I think works the best IMO. As for an IR laser along with it.... If you have the spare cash laying around. But you dont need it.
