Best piston gun for the least cash?

Of all the makers out there who makes (opinions of course) the best M4 carbine with a piston setup. I am looking at buying one that is real simple that the wife can learn to clean and shoot easy.

I know LWRC, POF, BCM, and alot of the others are just out of the price range.

The Smith And Wesson M&P Series has a piston with a quad rail that has decent specs. Think I will throw an aimpoint or eotech on top for her.

I'd like to keep it under $1300 if that is even possible these days or is that unreasonable?
