Best placememt of bipod on rifle

Re: Best placememt of bipod on rifle

Whether you want it or not is your call, but one thing you need to be congnizant of if you put a bipod on a shorter barreled rifle is the relation of the bipod, when folded, with the muzzle. I gave a guy at the range a world of $H!T last year when he proceeded to open a case with an M4, complete with a Harris bipod, and some monstrosity of a flash hider, then go through a couple of mag dumps before the rubber feet on his bipod started to ooze!

Funny stuff right there!!

Yes, really. I shoot at 600 yard quite a bit and we just rebuilt our 800 yard range so we plan to shoot 800 yards next Tues. weather permitting.

Re: Best placememt of bipod on rifle

shooting and hiting are different stories.

that being said I've got a friend with a 1.2" full bull 16" AR that will hold pretty tight out to 500, if he could speed up the twist rate and shoot some heavier stuff through it, the upper might be worth it's weight at 600. As it is, wind kills it past 300.

Re: Best placememt of bipod on rifle

I agree with Lonewolf, I have a 18 inch upper with a rifle lenght forend, in order to push the bipod as far out as possible for stability in shooting longer distances. When I used the gripod as a bipod,on a 16 inch upper, it was definitely much more easier to swivel quicker for want of a better word, but it wasn't a very stable platform.

+1 for nostradumbass. considering the point brought up by lonewolf. If you dont need to pivot really quickly then put it as far out as possible but if you find yourself needing to pivot then put it back, at the end of the day you have to figure out what works best for your situation

Re: Best placememt of bipod on rifle

although if its an ar, my honest suggestion would be to get a sling and wrap your arm through it. when you do it right, the rifle is absolutely stable even in off hand situations.
