Best quality, but cheapest rage finder out there?

Re: Best quality, but cheapest rage finder out there?

Get yourself a Bushnell range finder.

Their guts are pretty decent and lead the way in bang for buck ranging devices imo.

If you cant afford one, see if you can get a good working unit second hand.

Re: Best quality, but cheapest rage finder out there?

If that is your total budget then you either need to:

1) keep an eye on the PX for used Bushnell Elite 1500/1500 ARC units, along with Leica 1200/1200 Scan units, etc. which can occassionally be had in excellent condition for around the $300 or so range; OR...

2) save more money (BUY ONCE...CRY ONCE)!!

A word to the wise...many (too MANY) manufacturers sell "budget-minded" rangefinders with promises of 1k/1,000yd capabilities when in fact, they will only range highly reflective, barn-sized objects in ideal environmental/lighting conditions at that range (and only if you are lucky). DO NOT BE FOOLED. Do your homework here with the search engine linked to in my sig line and see what people have to say about different makes/models of LRF. Going cheap on the front end will end up costing you more in the long run.

Have a black Nikon 800 yd model I like very much.
Not a leica, but I enjoy carrying when afield to practice confirming my distance guesstimates.

Probably find one at a pawnshop for $125 or less...

$300 for a ranger finder that works at 1k yards? Guess you'll have to define "works."

That said, I think Nikon offers the best bang for the buck. Have not been impressed with Bushnell spotters or rangefinders in the past, but hey it works fine for golf.

Re: Best quality, but cheapest rage finder out there?

+1 for trying to find a Bushnell Elite 1500, it's just above your budget, but it should fulfill your requirements without resorting to the usual Swarovski, Leica or Zeiss suspects.

But expect performance to be on par with retail price. The Bushnell will probably get you by, but it won't be as nice as the high end LRFs.

Re: Best quality, but cheapest rage finder out there?

The elite 1500's are very nice for the price. It will hit trees to 900-1200 yards depending on conditions, reflective targets to 1600, and deer to 500. For the money spent you can't beat them, but they are still no Zeiss, Swaro, or Leica.

Re: Best quality, but cheapest rage finder out there?

I've tried lots of differant rangefinders. Out of everyting I tried, I've found Leica's to be the best quiality.

For the Money though Nikon makes the best rangefinder by far.

Although I like their optics, I wasn't impressed by Leupold's ragnefinders.
