I am the proud owner of a (new to me) 3-12 S&B PM II and thought it best to appeal to the wisdom of the Hide members to find out what the best 34mm rings are for this scope. Doing a search seemed to indicate many/most like Badger Ordinance - is this correct?

It will sit on top of a .308 on a pic-rail.

Appreciate your thoughts.

I did get a nice sling in the deal.
As for rings, the Near Mfg are works of art and cost accordingly.
He is a fantastic Canadian to deal with.
Seekins and Badger work equally well and TPS are worth a look.

i have a set of the badger and a set of near rings. i like the near rings because they are slightly lower then badger or seekins, all of the list are quality but i will be getting another set of near rings soon to replace my badgers.

Another vote for Seekins. I own NF and Badger rings but prefer Seekins

Here's a novel thought, actually contribute to this site...

Your subject title was "the best rings". Well for the absolute best you can get, I have to say that hands down, the Near Alphamount is the best scope mount money can buy. I have never seen anything even come close.

It is a one piece mount with 3 rings that attaches to a picatinny base. Here is mine:

Re: Best rings for a S&B PM II?

I love Badger and Seekins. I think they are both comparably excellent.

From an aesthetics only standpoint, I think I slightly prefer the thinner profile of Badger rings. But I like the lightweight of the Seekins, and the fact that they are slightly lower than the 34mm Badgers.

On my most recent S&B (a 4-16x50) I was looking for the lowest possible solution, and actually contacted Richard Near. A great guy and he told me he could build me one of his Alpha Hunters, and get as low as I wanted, but it would push the scope rearward to the point that it may be a problem.

At any rate, I ended up using Seekins. I dont think you can go wrong with either. Here is a picture of mine. I initially bought a 4-16x42 trying to stay compact/light as possible.

Due to my poor research, I didnt realize that the 4-16x50 mounted in the same rings that the 4-16x42 did. No lower options available, off the shelf. I didnt like the gap and traded the 42 for a 50. Here are a couple pictures.

As it is now, the 50mm in Seekins lows.

And before, the same rings, mounting a 4-16x42.

Re: Best rings for a S&B PM II?

With the 34mm rings you can only go so low and have room for the upper part of the clamp to engage as well as enough material in the bottom for screw threads. One of my new projects is going to be a direct mount, 30moa 34mm setup that will get a 42mm OBJ down on the barrel.

Re: Best rings for a S&B PM II?

I seem to recall there was a recent thread about this very same subject. Oh well...

I have my S&B 4-16x50 mounted in Badgers on my GAP Crusader. They seem solid enough to me and they didn't require any lapping.

For my Cooper 57M 22lr project I mounted a Vortex Viper 6,5-20x44 in Seekins rings. Again very high quality with a very solid and precise rail guide. Esthetically I prefer these more than the Badgers. The design and engineering that Glen put into building a "better mousetrap" is obvious when you compare the two side by side. When I have nothing better to do and a little extra money I plan to replace the Badgers. They're both more than adequate for the job but I like the Seekins better.
