Re: Best rings for a S&B PM II?
I love Badger and Seekins. I think they are both comparably excellent.
From an aesthetics only standpoint, I think I slightly prefer the thinner profile of Badger rings. But I like the lightweight of the Seekins, and the fact that they are slightly lower than the 34mm Badgers.
On my most recent S&B (a 4-16x50) I was looking for the lowest possible solution, and actually contacted Richard Near. A great guy and he told me he could build me one of his Alpha Hunters, and get as low as I wanted, but it would push the scope rearward to the point that it may be a problem.
At any rate, I ended up using Seekins. I dont think you can go wrong with either. Here is a picture of mine. I initially bought a 4-16x42 trying to stay compact/light as possible.
Due to my poor research, I didnt realize that the 4-16x50 mounted in the same rings that the 4-16x42 did. No lower options available, off the shelf. I didnt like the gap and traded the 42 for a 50. Here are a couple pictures.
As it is now, the 50mm in Seekins lows.
And before, the same rings, mounting a 4-16x42.
