Hey guys, I am looking for a scope anywhere up to 800 dollars and no more. I want the scope for a .223 AR target rifle 20" barrel. It will be used for anything 50 yards to 600 yards. I want it to have a mil-dot type reticle and I want it to have at least 14 power. Anything over that is a bonus. I want it to have tall tactical turrets for easy adjustment and im still not decided yet on mil mil or moa turrets. I have read that mil turrets are easier to use because it makes more sense... my only hesitation is that my other scope has mil turrets and i dont want to get confused. What do yall reccommend? Thanks for the help!

You don't want a fixed 16x (Super sniper 16x) for an AR, been there done that. I would look at the Super Sniper 3x9 made for such a platform. They are also hinting that they are coming out with a 4x16 (I think) later this year.

There are a number of options. Good luck.

Re: Best Scope under 800 dollars?

i personally just got a Leupold VX-3 4.5x14x40 with the CDS system. I gave them my bullet (Barnes TSX) the velocity (2960fps) altitude (2000ft) temp (60F) grain (180) zero (100yd) they sent me a calibrated dial. ive shot it twice at the range (i just got it) and so far 400yd steel targets are a breeze. the scope dials to 700yds and the picture is fanastic.
all in all it was about $650 or so.

I was looking at Leupold Mark 4's, but this VX-3 was about half the price. im seriously impressed. im not sure for that $ i could do better.

i put it on a weatherby vangaurd sub-moa version in .300 win mag for the record...

I would really look into the Super Sniper 3X9 from SWFA.com

They are a really great scope,
Here is a review from LowLight after putting it through its paces.

I recently bought one and it is on my 20" AR Target barrel.
Its very clear, we shot it to 500 yards this weekend and it worked great.
My dad was shooting it and I was shooting my 260 and he was breaking clays at 400 quicker than I could.

I will say its my first Mil/Mil experience and I don't think I'll buy another Mil/MOA setup. So easy.

Shot from 300 to 400, oh I'm a half Mil Low, 5 Clicks. Bang, dead clay.

yes, i gave the:

1 bullet type - mine was the barnes TSX
2 bullet weight- mine was 180gr
3 muzzle velocity- 2960
4 altitude- i chose 2000ft
5 temp- i chose 60 deg F
6 zeroed at 100yds
7 caliber- .300 win mag

i shoot a .300 win mag in the hills of california,

so you can go 55gr, 3100 fps, nosler partition, 500 feet elevation, 30deg F, 100 zero
for example.

its just a dial cover switch, so you can take it right off and put the factory dial on it for any other bullet.

i will say, there is no MIL DOT on mine, but im pretty sure theyre availbale
