Well I'm looking for some different opinions on sling setup's for the stock. Let me know what worked for ya and what didn't.The sling is for carrying the rifle in a hunting capacity.

Re: Best sling setup for the AICS stock

I have used a C9/SAW sling for carting the rifle about. The rifle is rather heavy so I don't use a sling for shooting but rather to assist in carrying it. You can find the HK clips and make a sling easily yourself. If I need a shooting sling, I use a tactical intervention sling with the HK clips...

Re: Best sling setup for the AICS stock

I checked out his site, he has 3 models any recommendations?
The "basic" one seems GTG, does he offer a "Hide" discount?

Re: Best sling setup for the AICS stock

Any chance some troops could give me some advice on the sling options (ie) flush cups? I'm not that familiar with that option?
Any pics of the sling options/set up would be great?
Thoughts on the cobra buckle set up as well?
Cheers

Re: Best sling setup for the AICS stock

HK Slings mounts with a TIS or TAB sling is what use on my AICS 2.0. I also use a Vikings Tactics Sling on it too sometimes and it looks good.

For shooting I like the TAB sling with HK hooks: You can hook the front portion of the sling on either the right of the left side of the stock, or you can quickly unclip and wrap the sling around a post.

Or get un-twisted?

Re: Best sling setup for the AICS stock

I've got the Elite Biathlon Sling HK hook Configuration inbound and a TAB rifle cover to use with my new AICS 2.0 for the Lawton/Broughton .308.

Re: Best sling setup for the AICS stock

Plus you can do pull-ups on your rifle with the TAB sling... I need to get one for the WWP deal going.

But for now running a regular old 1" nylon sling is good for un-shouldering and firing, plus there's a variety of different carry styles that are pretty comfortable.

Re: Best sling setup for the AICS stock

Knight, I don't think Flush Cups would fit AICS stock (or you'd have to drill the stock, install them - and what would be the point as AICS got plenty of nice eyelets for HK hooks?).

Tony says one would need HK hooks (so I've ordered a pair), and in a pinch Heavy Duty swivels would do (what I'm using now until my HK hooks arrive).

Re: Best sling setup for the AICS stock

You are right they are also easy to untwist but I stopped using them because everytime I picked up my gun I had to take 5 seconds to untwist my sling. Not a big deal but became annoying after awhile

Re: Best sling setup for the AICS stock

OK to revisit this topic a bit. I took my aics stocked 260 into the field for the first time this weekend, and carrying with my current sling setup was a night mare, I am not even sure that the tab sling would fix the problems.
To start with yes I know how to properly use a sling for shooting, the problem here is I can not seem to set up a sling that will work for both shooting and carrrying. while I was at the match I tried someone Tab sling on my rifle and this is what I have concerns about.

1 If I use the hooked tab sling I seem to have two issues. I is tha with the rifle flat on my back it is continually hitting my pack and being pushed off of my shoulder

2 is that if I want to sling shoot how do I do this properly with the sling hooked to the side of the stock?

does anyone make an uncle mikes type adapter for the rear of an AICS stock?

Re: Best sling setup for the AICS stock

The TAB GEAR sling, and other slings designed for slung up shooting, is designed so that you set up the front part of the sling for the position you'll most anticipate you'll be in, usually this will be the sitting position which will usually work when you're in the kneeling position too.

I would recommend that you set up the front section of the sling, the loop that your arm goes through, just tight enough that you have to use a bit of pressure to get the rifle into the pocket of your shoulder. With the sling so tightened you should not have to use any help from your firing hand to hold the rifle in position.

After you get the front section of the sling set for your positional shooting you don't touch the front adjustments any more. Now you would use the webbing of the center section of the TAB GEAR sling to adjust for your length of carry. The sling is now adjusted both for your positional shooting and adjusted for when you sling your rifle.

I carry my rifles with the muzzle down and don't have much of a problem with the sling sliding off of my shoulder. I'm not sure how you're carrying your rifle but wouldn't any sling slide off your shoulder if it's hitting your pack? One of the main reasons for the buckles on the TAB GEAR sling is to allow the shooter to quickly release the rifle without having to pull the rifle over his head when the rifle is slung across the chest or back.

If you're a right handed shooter I would recommend you hook your sling to the right side of the stock. That way the sling would lay flat across your hand when you're slung up and not cause as bad a torque in the rifle as it would if it were hooked to the left side.

By Uncle Mike's adapter, are you wanting something to allow a regular sling swivel to be attached to the back of your AICS stock instead of the HK Hook? I don't have any knowledge of something like that.

Re: Best sling setup for the AICS stock

Most has already been said but by Uncle Mikes Adapter I assume you are talking about the short hand rail flush cup slider than Michaels of Oregon used to make and now Grovtec makes them.

Remember no right answers for everyone just find what works for you and work on it.

Now for picking types of swivels for an AICS my opinion is as follows
For pure shooting taking the Flush Cup slider/Adapter from Grovtec ( They amke the Uncle Mikes style sliding hand stop now)and a flush cup swivel on front is absolutely best for shooting because it puts swivel on bottom of stock for most natural sling line to upper bicep where the cuff rides. This is not as good as HK style hooks for field work though because it only allows the sling to be carried from one front swivel position and that position is the one that will have the mag dig into your back.

Best field type in my opinion are the HK/AI style hooks. For shooting place under stock on opposite side your front hand will be, so sling flows over hand smoothly. Not as good as the flush cup way for shooting but pretty good, while allowing multiple carry positions. A real tight sling this way will cause torque issues but not enough to worry about for field accuracy. For heavy small target comps though it bothers me.

Its a trade off either way.

I suggest you set up sling for position you will most likely use sling for. Me I go to sling when I can not get good shot from prone bipod or prone ruck sack. This means I go to next best stable position for me, which is sling seated. That is what I set my slings up for.

Any way you look at it Triad has all the hardware except the sliders and I usually have those but currently out of stock.
