Rifle Scopes Best US Optics and The best US Retailer ??

I am going to be popping over to the states in a couple of weeks and I thought that while I am over there I might as well pick me up a scope for my long range rifle build.

I have already been looking at Nightforce but also US Optics.

So the questions I have is (as I am only over for a week (Vegas)) where is the best place to order either a Nightforce (5.5-22 x 50) or a US Optics (unknown at the moment which model) so that it arrives in time before I leave.

I am looking to spend probably a max of $1800 on a scope. Looking on this forums pictures taken through the scopes it looks like US Optics appear clearer.

The scope will be used on a .308 up to 1000 yards. I might want to use it for hunting in the future but not yet.

TIA

Dan.

Re: Best US Optics and The best US Retailer ??

I have done a bit of searching and found a company called MidwayUSA. Has anyone had any experience with them ? They seem to have a lot of Nightforce scopes in stock including 5.5-22x50's which seem to fit the bill of what I am looking for. Some of them have something called zero stop. What is that ?

Also what sort of mounts would I need to mount it on a 20moa picatinny rail on a Remington 700 PSS?

Thanks

Dan

Re: Best US Optics and The best US Retailer ??

come up with 400 extra bucks and go with the Nightforce F1 (includes a set of rings)

What type of shooting are you doing? (bench, field, etc)

x22 is a fair amount of magnification might consider a x15

Re: Best US Optics and The best US Retailer ??

Midway USA is a very good and well known company. Deal with confidence.

The zero stop is a feature that allows you to set your 100 yard zero so that the knob stops when you hit that point in dialing down. You can also set it so you have a few clicks below. It's a very nice feature. I have it on two of my Nightforces.

Yes mount it on a 20 MOA base. Although the Nightforce has plenty of internal travel having the 20 MOA base will keep the erector more centered at longer ranges where you'll need more wind. Also they usually cost the same as a flat base so why not get it.

The Nightforce 3.5-15x50 F1 FFP is a very nice scope but I doubt you'ld find one in time. Took be about 4 weeks to get both of mine in.

Re: Best US Optics and The best US Retailer ??

Just a question, and not sure it's even pertinent, but:

What country is this going to, and at which point does the "ITAR" or whatever rules come into play?

I ask, because I have inquired previous, and since I live in the Soviet Socialist Republic of Canada, there are scopes that 'won't be sold to me'. Cause you never know, the scope might decide to hurt someone one day, maybe.

Sorta kinda.

So how does this apply, and pan out? Or am I missing something gargantuan?

?

(I forgot to add, that this is not a slam against any particular manufacturer, nor any particular scope, model, sales outlet, or whatever contingency you can invent. I'm just asking what/where is the line drawn, and whatnot.)

Respects to USOptics and OP alike.

The scope will be used for field target shooting (in that I understand lying prone in a field shooting at targets be that paper or steel)

I had a quick look for a F1 but could only find them for $2300 however going what has been said in this thread I will now try and get one with the zero stop.

So far I have tried :-

www.opticsplanet.net --> No stock at the moment 2 weeks wait
www.usarmorment.com --> No stock at the moment 3 weeks wait
www.midwayUSA.com --> Stock of some of the scopes which are similar but are out of stock of MLR reticle 5.5 - 22 x 56's

Any others you guys know about ? If I cant find one I am going to have to go with midway and for a scope I not 100% happy with

Re: Best US Optics and The best US Retailer ??

Try Bear Basin Outfitters...I think they are i Idaho or some other cold assed place, but they have a lot in stock and are good to work with. If you would be interested in a good very lightly used USO pm me. I dont know about exports on scopes but there is an excellent reason for stuff like NightVision equipment....don't want the baddies to have the good stuff...Keep it here and keep our guys safer.....I agreee.

Re: Best US Optics and The best US Retailer ??

Thanks Goldie, I have emailed Bear Basin Outfitters and asked them about the nightforce I am after. As a backup plan I am looking at the following as a slightly more readily available scope :-

Leupold Mark 4 ER/T M1 Scope 64665, 6.5-20x50mm Objective,Extended Range Front Focal, Matte finish, TMR Reticle.

Looking on here :-

Seemed to highlight the Tactical Leupolds as being good.

Re: Best US Optics and The best US Retailer ??

The last time I was at Jensons in Loveland Colorado they had a good selection USOs in the case along with the usual NF and Leupold offerings.

just a thought.

Re: Best US Optics and The best US Retailer ??

I own an older Leupold 6.5-20 VX3 the 30mm tube big M1 turrets, mil-dor reticle, etc., Tis was made before they called them Mark 4's, anyway this spent two years on a 50BMG and was fine the whole time, a solid optic, it is now on the shelf waiting for use on my 280 Ackley tackdriver now under consteruction.

I bought a lightly used Nightforce NSX 5.5-22x56 for my 50BMG last year. It offers a bit sharper view of the sighter discs on targets at 1,000 yards. But the NF is a bigger and heavier than the Leupold. On my 40 pounds 50BMG this weight is of no consequence, but on a hunting rifle you may appreciate lighter weight more often that the additional clarity at longest ranges. Only you can decide this.

I also have a US Optics SN-3 in 3.2-17x44 on my 308 tactical bolt-action custom rifle. This is a fine tackdriver of a rifle and while the scope is probably more than required it sure is a joy to shoot this combination! If you appreciate top quality and/or need ultra reliability you will not regret purchasing a USO scope. If you can be satisfied with a fixed 10x scope look for a USO ST-10. Starting about $1100 (more with options) it is very nice for anything except close in shots where lower magnification is very handy. I would love to get one of these for a 6.5mm project rifle down the road a bit.

Hope this helps.

Re: Best US Optics and The best US Retailer ??

Thanks for the advice guys. I am emailing the companies you are suggesting. Keeping my fingers crossed that I will find one soon.

Thanks again
