7.62 x 39 only.

Learn to rivet, I can assemble a fixed stock kit in a Global
trades receiver in 90 minutes, folders 3-4 hrs, of the 25 I built the Hungarian, Bulgarion, and Polish were the best, the flat out worst is the Yogos, the Romanian are hit and miss. Understand that no AK you can buy now that are assembled are brand new, there all used, some well used, fresh paint does wonders, I would buy a 223 AK, I think the importantion of 7.62x39 and 5.45x39 will be stopped, ammo is the new hot topic across our country.

Without getting into your "global trades receivers" part (hint: they haven't existed for QUITE some time now), I'll just ask you to explain your reasoning behind this little gem quoted above.

By all means, please tell us how not only the imporT-A-T-I-O-N will be stopped, but when and why.

Without this being a completely unhelpful post to the OP:

Polish underfolders, Bulgarian AK-74s, or fixed Romanians are going to be your three main options these days, with some Hungarian rifles out there now and then. Yugos can be hit-or-miss due to barrels (most are dark, many won't pass a bullet test anymore), so I'd recommend not going there for an only rifle--the exception to that would be the Century-branded (but not built by their drunk monkeys, thankfully) fixed-stock Yugo's. Bores aren't chrome-lined, but if you're not shooting corrosive ammo that's a non-issue.


Although a pre-ban polytech would really be the ultimate for me....

The AK was a great thing when they could be had for $300 and ammo could be had for $80 per 1000 rounds.

These days it's appeal is greatly lessened. For the same money you'd be well off building a half-decent AR and loading your own ammo for it.

If you still want an AK I'd look for a '74 in 5.45x39. The russian and bulgarian ammo floating around is corrosive but still relativly cheap. If you do go this way do youself a favor and buy a ton of ammo. I don't know if importation will be stopped but it's not likely to get any cheaper.
