Hi All,

This is my first post but I have been lurking for a while and there is a lot of great information here. Thanks.

Through our club, we are looking to do a group buy. I have an opportunity to purchase within the LMT line at a substantial discount. I am leaning strongly toward LMT but I can also get a good value with LWRC.

I have shot a number of ARs, mostly mid-grade. The only time I have ever had a problem with an AR was with three guys beating on it for 1 hour, non-stop, mag after mag (DI). Other than that I was impressed.

I would like to spend less than $1500 for a complete rifle. There is more in the budget but I also want to pick up a shotgun for trap. My total budget for the AR, AR optics and a semi-auto trap gun is $3700. That is THE MAX.

Everyone is telling me to stick with DI (LMT) for a number of acceptable reasons. That works out well for the club as well. If we go LMT, it will allow us to purchase both DI and Piston guns. A purchase with LMT will open up more purchasing options and increase the total order volume so we can save money. That being said, I love the looks and buzz about the LWRC.

Any advice would be appreciated in terms of a specific model or combination. I am leaning toward a 14.5-7" barrel with permanent flash hider, but I just started hand loading, so I would appreciate a "tack driver" to test my loads. Also looking for recommendations for a good trap/skeet gun.

I currently live in CA (I hope it falls into the ocean too, i have a raft, no comments please). I am moving out in 5 months.

THANKS FOR YOUR PATIENCE !!!!! CHEERS !!!!

Cheers,
Jay

Re: Best Value within the LMT line ????

Jay,

If you really want an LMT, i would go with the MRP CQB with a 16" barrel. I'm not really sure if they'll sell you a 14.5" barrel on a complete rifle, but you can always get the barrel later, have someone install and pin the flashhider, and take the barrel off yourself (super easy). The MRP CQB offers what i think is the most flexibility to cost on the market today. You shouldn't have any trouble finding one that fits the price range that you're at, especially since it comes with so many great options for the price. A standard MRP comes with a rock solid free float rail and a Sopmod stock (one of the best in the industry as far as i'm concerned) Most of your standard Ar's will require spending some extra $$$ on those 2 items alone.

As far as LWRC goes, I would stay away from them for now. I'm not saying that they're bad or anything, i just think it's a little much for your first AR. I would try to stick with a standard DI gun for your first "blaster" and get something like an LWRC later when you're ready for something a little nicer. I also think that after you've had an Ar for a while and do a little more research you'll realize that there are nicer guns out there for less money than a LWRC.

Hope that helps

I agree with the MRP CQB. You can change to piston later if you decide to on the same weapon. The ability to change system of operation and barrel length easily on the same platform gives you a lot of flexibility for the future if you change your use of the gun.

While the MRP is great it too comes at a higher cost, I'd likely go with the Std Defender with a 16" barrel, alot of value in this package.

Re: Best Value within the LMT line ????

I have a thread going with basicly the same type of situation but at a bit higher price point. I had it narrowed to two different models (an makers) but after a lot of good advice and input from several Hiders / resident experts I am rethinking and reconsidering a few options.

Dropping back (per-say or better lack of words) to the LMT MRP CQB 16" DI is a very realistic option as stated above for a couple very good reasons. The ability to change barrels to the 14.5" and change up calibers too of needed (6.8SPC and .204 Ruger) or go piston if you really wanted.

I'm seeing the MRP CQB DI rifles for $1499 or so and that makes it quite appealing. Sell off the 16" barrel before using it and buy the 14.5" barrel. It's almost a wash when looking at pricing.

If I can get an MRP CQB DI for a deal (less than what I have found already) then I'll snatch one up in a heartbeat.

Just my opinion.

Re: Best Value within the LMT line ????

I went with an LMT CQB MRP 12.5" piston upper and fell in love with the MRP platform. Can switch out barrels and calibers in minutes and is rock solid. Some are even offering conversions of standard barrels to the MRP platform, so you are not limited to LMT barrels.

Thinking of getting a Noveske 300BLK converted for the MRP

Re: Best Value within the LMT line ????

MRPs are incredible pieces of kit....I have not bought any other upper or done a build without a MRP top since I bought my first one. I honestly don't see this trend changing. I enjoy MRPs more and more each and every time I time I shoot em and discovery more of their potential.
