I want to try the Ladder Test method to find accurate loads for my .300WM. The old way I used to do it for other calibers was start 10% below max and load 5-8 rounds (each) in .5gr increments and work up to book max. Then after I find the "sweet spot" I move around in.2gr increments.

I have looked (googled) online about the Ladder Test but have found there are a couple different ways of doing it.

Thanks

Re: Best Way To LADDER TEST?

Pretty much, those two post above some it up.

In a nut shell this is how i do it.

Set target out at 300 yards or more. One dot target on the bottom of a tall target, which is the point of aim for the entire test.

Load up 10 foulers/sighters just in case you need them.
Load up a round at book minimum, and one round 0.5grains above that until your about 1 grain above book max.

Shoot a sighter to get yourself on paper. Then shoot each round at the same point, starting from the lowest making your way to the highest. STOP IF YOU SEE PRESSURE SIGNS.

Take notes of where each charge weight impacted.

Take home results and digest. You should find an accuracy window between 2 to 3 of of those shots. Sometimes you may get a low end node and a high end node. If the high end node looks good and has no pressure signs associated stick with that as a basis for more research.
