What's the best way to ship a complete upper, would I be best off just shipping in a hard rifle case inside a cardboard sleeve or bubble wrapping the hell out of it and sticking it in a box? I am going to have my .308 upper threaded and a muzzle brake installed.

You would probably be well-served to contact the smith you are shipping it to and find out if they have any preferences.

If not, then TM's suggestion above is the best way to go. Do NOT, repeat DO NOT use those @#$%ing shipping tubes/triangles/etc. to ship uppers. I have seen some get totally mangled in transit along with the uppers inside getting pretty seriously damaged.

I use blueprint tubes, not the cheap triangle ones, the round ones made out of cardboard that would deflect fire from the gun, they cost about 25 bucks. They also sell black ASB plastic ones, wrap the barrel in bubble and slide it in... Screw the caps on and it a lock. Available at most blueprint/technical drafting sources.

Bahahaha! Nice one. I want to try and drop off a box like that at USPS some day.

Personally, I keep the boxes my rifles come in - if I ever need to send my stuff off I just re-use the same box. If the post office is going to mangle my stuff, nothing can save it - that's what insurance is for..
