I have a TBAC certificate and trying to decide whether a 338 Ultra or 6.5 Ultra 9 will best cover my needs.

I have a SiCo Omega 30cal which currently rotates between a 14.5” AR15, 11” 6.5 Grendel, and 20” Tikka Tactical .223. My 7 year old has started shooting the AR, so the Omega will likely live there. I’ll pick up an Ultra 5 30cal for the Grendel at some point. That leaves only the bolt 223 currently (but could run the Omega on it easy). I don’t plan to shoot anything larger than 6.5 for target or hunting, and would like to pick up a 6.5 CM or .260 to fill those rolls (tired of .270).

If only suppressing bolt action 223 and 6.5, should I get a 6.5 Ultra 9? Will the 338 Ultra suppress them the same or better? If so I’d jump up to it.

Thanks for any advice.

I had a certificate as well and after doing considerable reading up on the subject I opted to get the 338 Ultra and am waiting approval. (Check cashed at the end of June)

My plan is to use it primarily on a TRG 260 Remington. There is an even chance I'll be getting a TRG 42 so it'll cross over fine if I do.

If you look around on here there are some older posts about hide members who are very happy with using their 338 Ultra on smaller calibers. The little extra size of the 338 as compared to the Ultra 9 was not an issue for me.

I have an Ultra 9 and an Ultra 338. I shoot the 338 more because it is just that impressive. The size difference between the two is inconsequential, especially from the bench, and the 338 has less noise/muzzle blast/recoil. The Ultra 9 is still an incredible can. If you are serious about never shooting anything bigger than a medium capacity 6.5, the 338 Ultra is probably overkill. The Ultra 9 on a 260 is still an awesome combination. You won't be disappointed with either, but the 338 gives you more of everything, albeit in exchange for higher cost and slightly larger dimensions.

My vote is for the 338 ultra. I was in the same boat and opted for the larger can as a do all and the increased performance is ideal for myself.
